  • Problem Description

    Cannot launch a preview of the game due to crash appearing since last update.

    When crashing, this message pops up:

    "Uncaught node.js Error

    Error: Failed to read the 'selectionDirection' property from 'HTMLInputElement': The input element's type ('file') does not support selection.

    at Error (native)

    at HTMLImageElement.img_.onerror ()"

    Description of Capx

    This is the unmodified version of our project which worked flawlessly yesterday. A temporary fix would be to return to a later version of the software but we really could use the new "File chooser" plugin in the future.

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    • Launch game in preview.
    • Wait a few seconds.
    • Error message pops up.

    Observed Result

    -Previewing in chrome loads the game with a red bar and stops midway.

    -Previewing in fire fox launches the game but with terrible framerate.

    -Previewing in Node-Webkit instantly crashes.

    Expected Result

    I expect for my project to launch properly when in preview.

    UPDATE: We've attempted to reinstall the version prior to R178 but the same error pops up.

    It could mean alot of things at this point.

  • This is the same error I was getting with my game... It only effected my huge almost finished one, the little ones were still fine. So it's not the game size causing this. I only saw this error in node webkit though, I just got a red bar for everything (and still do) except in firefox. Will be watching this thread.

  • This should not occur in Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer: the error message mentions node.js, which is exclusive to node-webkit. If you have problems on other browsers they are likely different issues - check the browser error console for details, particularly if the loading bar turns red (which means an error got logged to the console).

 While using Firefox, The game runs as it should but with very low framerate.

And when using Node-Webkit, this happens:

  • The IE error is a different error: it's failing to compile a WebGL shader. Try making sure you've got all Windows Updates installed, they've fixed a bunch of WebGL bugs since the release of IE11.

    The Chrome error just looks like it's running out of memory. The node-webkit error is kind of weird, but if it's pushing the resources of the system then it might be related.

    Firefox might have blacklisted the system GPU and reverted to software rendering. I can't remember off the top of my head how to check that in Firefox... but it's worth checking your graphics drivers are up to date.

    There's really nothing else I can do without a .capx so I would have to close this if you can't produce one. It already looks like a bunch of different issues rather than one single issue though.

[b]UPDATE2: We've done some messing around and discovered that the version r173 
(Aka the Dynamic shadow update) doesn't have the preview crash problem.

I'll still keep the download link open until further notice in case you guys haven't gotten it yet and want to do some tests on it for further updates.[/b]

  • This is all the same stuff that started happening to me. Errors are the same. My game is also gigantic at this point. Firefox is working fine for me but it runs so bad I can't do a proper play test - Just for quick bug checks. I've been exporting to node webkit to do actual play tests. 173 was the last version that let me preview as well. I'm glad I'm not alone on this error

  • I am having the exact same issues. I updated everything, browsers and vid drivers. IE11 results in massive errors pertaining to GL support. If I disable WebGL it works in IE11 but with out the obvious WebGL support. Firefox is just plain crap with FPS dropping quickly and massively. Chrome and Node webkit work for me.

    I still cannot reproduce any problem myself and I do not have a .capx from anybody that reproduces the issue. Please can someone provide one? Otherwise there is nothing I can do to investigate the problem.

  • I've also been having issues since the last update...

    A small project I just started has been inexplicably not able to preview ....

    I'm getting the following error whenever I preview from any browser.

    This was working perfectly fine until I updated...

    Not really sure whats going on as I loaded some of C2s templates and they preview just fine...

  • Ashley - My apologies. It seemed like the error I was having was related to this thread but after clearing my browser and hard drive temporary files the problem ceased to occur.

  • Closing, please post a new report with some way for us to reproduce the problem if anyone wants this further investigated.
