Ludum Dare is a worldwide game jam where games are made from scratch in a weekend and Ludum Dare 49 will be running from the 1st to the 4th of October (that's for us here in the UK, the event is timezone dependent, so make sure you check the LD site!)

As has now become a bit of a tradition, we're going to be opening up the full version of Construct 3 completely for free so that you can use it for the duration of the jam!

All features will be available, including Remote Preview and the mobile app build service and limits on features like JavaScript coding, Timelines, meshes and more will be lifted.

Plus, don't forget there are all the new 3D features to play around with – you'll even have access to the new 3D Camera feature if you're using the latest beta!

It's the ideal time to try out Construct 3 - if you're taking part in Ludum Dare, give it a go!

How to use it

All you need to do to use the full version of Construct 3 for free during the jam is:

  1. Make sure you've registered a free account
  2. Visit editor.construct.net to load Construct 3
  3. Log in with your account (choose Menu - Account - Log in) - you'll then have access to the full version!

Ludum Dare’s site has full details about when the jam starts and ends, specific to your timezone and we’re making sure Construct 3 will be free for the duration of the jam! The GameJam license will be running from 12:00UTC on September 30th until 12:00UTC on October 5th which should cover all timezones.

Until the jam kicks off you can still use the free edition to familiarise yourself with Construct - perhaps start with the Beginner's guide to Construct 3 if you're new.

Good luck!

For more information see the Ludum Dare website, including the rules. Please do mention Construct as the engine or framework if you make a submission!

We’d love to know if you’re joining the Jam, so share your creations with us! Use the tags #MadeWithConstruct or #Construct3, or tag us directly on Twitter or Facebook using @ConstructTeam and we’ll share as much as we can! There's also the official Ludum Dare hashtag #LDJAM and they're @LudumDare on Twitter.

Have fun!

  • Thanks Laura,

This was a lot of fun last year and I learned a lot from it. Might give it a go again :)

There were some great games posted last year.

  • Thanks for making Construct 3 free for the weekend! I used it for my submission:

    ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/49/the-lunatic

Saved so much time by using built-in Behaviors. Platformer meant no dealing with input nonsense or jumping checks, Orbit and Sine for UI and handling dynamic gravity changes without needing to resort to calculus. 😂 Was able to go from idea to prototype in an hour. Made the whole process a lot less stressful and a lot more fun.

  • can i use existing games for the jam

  • Yaaaayyy

  • Are we getting any good prizes for these 72 hours or so !!???? Whats the point !?? Just asking !!!

cause I think in 72 hours I can get real money instead of sitting around for a competition without any valuable prizes. JUST Being REAL Mates !!!!

    • I don't think the point of the Ludum game jam is to be making money, its more about trying to quickly create a unique game around a theme they choose.

If you prototype some cool new mechanic or feature, there's nothing stopping you later to use the same code to make a full game for profit.

Look at the jam as an opportunity to dedicate 72 hours to learn and be creative for the sake of making a game, not for the sake of making a quick buck.

      • I already learned a lot a looot with this engine so now I think its time to make some bucks out of it , don't you think !?? its unfair to go to an university and after years of learning and Graduated you just don't make money out of that after so many and thousands of hours studying !!! You get my point riiite !!! Just being Real !!! Mates.
