Jeez, no idea. Considering how much I want to put in, mechanics I want to build/write tutorials for, artwork... I feel like I'd be lucky if I've finished 5%! Not to mention, there are definitely ways I could tidy up my existing code, so to be honest, I'm probably closer to 2-3% at most!
Maybe, but that's a LONG way off - there's plenty of time to think about that!
For me, having never done this sort of thing, it's been looking at existing artwork in the style that I want and trying to learn from that. It's a slow process, but I'm certainly happy with the progress I've made so far!
It is tempting, and I do ask the others when I'm really stuck. But they're all busy doing their own work, so I try and get through things on my own!
Or with the help of my viewers - co-op coding is becoming a regular thing!
I'm sure we could arrange that somewhere in the game
Tell me about it! I'd been putting off using functions for ages because I had no idea what to do with them!
I mean writing it twice, which at this point I prefer - it means I can add mechanics a piece at a time, and make sure it doesn't break what's already there.
In a way, I'm already doing that - all the mechanics for this game are being built in small, external projects before being imported into the main game. Also means I can more easily create examples for tutorials etc.
Hi Sotano,
Appreciate the input, but I'm already using states - we had this discussion on stream a few weeks ago! I just hadn't put them in for the player, only NPCs.
I'm slowly making a bank of places I can look at for inspiration, so I have plenty of places I can draw from. I also want to look into mythology from different countries too - I feel like that sort of thing might fit well with the whole theme I'm going for.
Squisherz are so much fun!
Ah, that's something like Splatoon for me - there is great joy in sneaking up behind someone and smacking them over the head with a giant paint roller.
Thanks :)
I'm sure I've said this before, but I want this blog to cover all aspects of gamedev, and this definitely counts in my opinion!
And yes. Always stay hydrated!
Well jeez. Sounds like I'm being back into a corner here xD
(Tbh I had had that thought about the limitations of text too)
Well, I hadn't even gotten as far as figuring out whether spritefont or text was the right way to go! There are a couple of nice Google Fonts in a pixel style, so I was going to test those too.
But if you want to send me things, I won't complain!
