  • Bump... update....

Ok now I have great news. I finely got the camera apps to work every time with Intel XDK.

Just because you install the cordova plugin camera for your app that will not grant it permissions to use the camera in your app.

in build settings go to the bottom of the device settings. you will see add permissions add CAMERA it's that easy.

Have fun and Enjoy. Jeremy C.

Edit:) tested on all android platforms and works like a charm.. Thank God for a little help finding the answers I was seeking.

  • +1 Great work, keep it up! Video tutorials are a great source for beginners

Thanks for the comment. I have a few more coming out soon. Just have been really busy here. I should have a little time maybe this weekend. Have fun and enjoy. Jeremy C.

  • Ok! I have tried all my creations that I have made so far 18 in all. Each and every one has an issue or two.

some run slow, some on touch don't do requested actions, some just turn to a black screen, some the plugins don't install and some even crash. I am getting frustrated with construct 2 to mobile build........................

I have tried both phonegap and intel xdk. I have exported both html5 and cordova and nether one make a difference. I have gone as far as going to github and pre-loading cordova plugins before build.

and still once compiled into .apk they don't work right.............

any help? I have read over 30 hours of posts comments and how to install plugins. both in intel xdk and via phonegap in config.xml. I have watched just about every video on the subject of how to build / compile and .apk

I would really appreciate some help or point me in the right direction. Thanks Jeremy C.

edit1:) Things are looking up. I was watching a video on using intel xdk to create android apps.

they said start a blank project with or with out cordova.

Then export from construct 2 into the www folder of the blank project.

I built 3 games this way and the speed went out out the roof 60+ fps I am so excited.

still having some issues with cordova plugins but making great progress. now I have to slow down some of my apps as they are really flying even better then web view on the desktops and laptops I have been testing them on.

hope this helps others who maybe having issues building for mobile devices.

edit2:) It is really sad when I went out and bought another android device (ver. 5) and still did not work with the apps. but yet Construct 2 promotes the use of both phonegap and intel xdk for creating andriod .apk's

I can assure you that it makes a huge difference. We have an overly enthusiastic artist who outputs images in the 2000x5000px size range, and I have to resize these images in an image processor before importing them into C2 otherwise we pay a hundredfold in performance.

I said compression, but I actually meant resizing.

Thanks I will look in to compressing and resizing and see if it helps.

  • it's because some differece between both of them. in intel xdk look for plugins, some of them are not compatible. don't ever use core plugins of intel xdk.

and, can u explaine me, what exactly u want from camera? maybe u use some plugins in C2 that r not compatible wth XDK?

and second question - how you make export for intel? there is two ways, <use intel XDK project format or without of using this option?

this is my app Snappy Flappy it works for android and Winphone. I got it to work with phonegap.

use firefox as it locks up when using chrome.

but really like Intel xdk, just trying to understand why it does not compile the same via intel xdk.

You can find the link to the apk and winphone install under completed projects Snappy Flappy Ver 1

  • can any body tell me why. when compiling apps why phonegap could make my app work and Intel XDK was having issues with camera capture and causing the app to run slow. They both used the same cordova build.

  • Have you tried Cocoon.IO?

It still sounds strange with the description of what your game features because those things shouldn't have a problem running on mobile.

that's what I am saying. check out the demo release I just posted.

  • I just created the phonegap build and it is a little better. but still slow, but the camera is working. Thank god for that as it is my main selling point of my snappy app collection.

see Snappy Flappy at link provided. for android and winphone so far as I don't have an apple dev account.

  • Ok! here is the phonegap build it is still a little slow, but the camera capture works finally.

Meet Snappy Flappy part on my snappy apps collection.

once I fix the performance issues I will put it in the play store for sale.

thanks for all the support in helping me fix the issues I was having. Jeremy C.

Edit: Adding to google play store once I take all screen shots the free demo will no longer be available. Enjoy Jeremy C.

  • Yea, try pre-compressing images too. C2 does some compression on export, but it helps more if you have smaller input images to begin with.

yah! I thought about that, but the manual said that did not have any effect on performance. Will see if that helps. I tried low dpi setting but did not see much of a difference.

Edit:) I also thought about trying phonegap it export to see if it would make a difference.

  • Mobile devices are bad about Performance.

I have read that post about performance. It is not really helpful as my first app is just a flappy clone for testing how to compile an apk.

There are no ads so that is not effecting the performance.

there are only 5 objects in the game. the flappy, the pipes, the score and back ground.

when run as web app it flies on the same device so much so that I will need to set slower speed for pipes.

but when compiled as apk and run on the same device. it goes so slow that one tap is like 3 taps. it jumps up and up and up. so you can't even clear the first pipe.

Edit 1) I think I will try compiling without cordova and see what happens.

  • I can run in browser on android and it flies.

but when I create the cordova apk with intel xmx it goes so slow it glitches.
