Tutorial notes

Working with the Keyboard

You can uncheck the “Add Action Links” in the Events tab of the Construct 2 ribbon. Doing so removes one line per event, freeing up a lot of space as your project grows. Those links are also useless when you learn to work mainly with your keyboard.

Basic shortcuts

1- A to add an Action, B to add a Blank sub-event, C to add a Condition, E to add an Event, G to add a Group and V to add a local or global Variable

2- X creates a new event containing the Else condition after the selected event.

3- You can navigate with the keyboard using the arrow keys, as long as you don’t select a whole block of events (multiple lines at the same time).

Adding and editing events fast

1- Press enter to edit an action or a condition

2- Esc to cancel the edition

3- Alt + Left and Alt + Right respectively trigger the Previous and Next buttons in your action/condition editor.

4- With Tab and Shift + Tab, you can cycle through the search bar, the object or action selection window, and the buttons.

Typing Shortcuts

1- Keep the Ctrl key down in combination with the arrow keys to move from word to word.

2- Keep the Shift key down in combination with the arrow keys to select text.

3- If you keep Ctrl + Shift down, you can select whole words at one by pressing the arrow keys

4- Ctrl + Backspace and Ctrl + Delete respectively deletes the word preceding or following the typing cursor.
