1724年，神聖羅馬帝國由奧斯曼土耳其手中奪取一塊位處巴爾幹半島一帶的土地，正當查理六世為此沾沾自喜時，怪事卻接連發生。駐紮軍隊與居民在幾日間死傷過半，死者身體發白屍體卻不腐，口中鮮血直冒，因而紛傳乃是因為軍隊的到來觸怒深居該地古堡中的吸血鬼，一時間軍心動盪，更有甚者開始質疑教廷是否能夠保護人民，教廷為了維護其威信只得讓查理六世派出一支由「萬民福音部」人員組成的隊伍前往調查，然而這些人員大多各自持有不同的想法，究竟，他們能否安然無恙的完成調查呢?
