This was created for a Video Game Design class as a game jam, where we had five days to create a game with a theme of 'death is not the end'. This game has a tutorial and a full level.
Take on the graveyard as Donkey Kong rushing forward (and backward). There are multiple ranks: D, C, B, A, A+, and P. Ranks D-A+ require a specific score range (you cannot see your score). To get a P rank, you must have a consistent combo throughout the entire level. The combo starts when you first enter the stage. The combo timer is marked by the flagpole on the top right, with the flag at the top meaning full and the bottom meaning you've lost your combo. You'll know you've lost your combo if you hear a sound and the flag color turns from green to red. You must also go for lap two for a P rank. Lap two is to the right of the entrance, up and across the platform.
There is a tutorial that teaches you how to play. Here are some more advanced tips:
1.) You cannot jump and move from a standstill; you must build up your jump, even if for only a fraction of a second.
2.) Spin at the VERY PEAK of your jump for maximum height; you might need this.
3.) Jumping out of a fast run (fast run indicated by the yellow effect) will have a small startup but will launch you far and high. If you're already rolling, you'll jump out of it automatically no matter what (even if you're in the air after rolling off an edge!)
4.) As DK, you can break brick blocks by spinning (no matter speed) and metal blocks by spinning fast enough. (fast enough indicated by yellow effect)
5.) Going for the P rank? Collect as many bananas / clocks as you can, kill as many enemies as you can, and break every block you can.
6.) Stuck? Try running to get un-stuck. (this is a bug i couldn't figure out how to fix)
Increase your score by defeating enemies, collecting bananas, and breaking blocks. You'll lose score for turning into a ghost or by getting hit by a ghost enemy.
BONUS!!!:
When entering the Graveyard level from the lobby, hold H before pressing up to enter hard mode. Hard mode will decrease the time it takes for you to lose your combo, makes the escape timer more tight, and requires a second lap to beat. This may sound bad, but your movement speed is greatly increased. It'll take much less time to gain speed. Your speed is increased so much in fact that the hard mode walking speed is almost the same speed as running in normal mode. In hard mode, you can also press R to reset your run and start over instantly.
