  • I did find a good solution to my problem.

    I have enabled hardware acceleration and I played a bit with the flags.

    The one to which I pointed my finger was this one:

    "Choose ANGLE graphics backend"

    Choose the graphics backend for ANGLE. D3D11 is used on most Windows computers by default. Using the OpenGL driver as the graphics backend may result in higher performance in some graphics-heavy applications, particularly on NVIDIA GPUs. It can increase battery and memory usage of video playback. – Windows

    This flag has the following options:

    - Default

    - OpenGL

    - D3D11

    - D3D9

    - D3D11on12

    I've tried all of them and here are the results:

    - Default --> has the problem --> game speed OK

    - OpenGL --> it is OK --> game speed slow

    - D3D11 --> it is OK --> game speed OK

    - D3D9 --> has the problem --> game speed OK (this is probably used as default)

    - D3D11on12 --> it is OK --> game speed slow

    It seems the right configuration form my PC is D3D11.

    I don't know if this might tell you something but at the end solved my issue.

  • it looks like but I don't have the same problem using Firefox. Does it might exclude a driver problem in this case?

    Is there something into the Chrome flags with which I might play to try to disable something more specifically instead of disable the whole hardware acceleration?

  • Ashley I do agreed with you, but as promised I did back with an update and a workaround.

    Just to recap my troubleshooting I would inform you that I tried to go back with at least 3 different video driver releases with no results.

    Any other configuration setup was not giving me a solution.

    What actually solved was to disable Chrome hardware acceleration.

    This solved the problem but the question now is what kind of bottleneck is now been introduced? since we are talking about a 12 year old hardware probably none, but I do not exactly know what the hardware acceleration may actually improve into a so old hardware.

    I'd appreciate your opinion on this or what else you may suggest I may check into the chrome://flags that might tune this strange behavior.

  • DiegoM, it is an old HP EliteBook 8440p with Window 7 with an intel HD graphic.

    Checking with the intel automatic update says I'm using the updated driver.

    I'll see if there is something else but considering it is on the road since years I do not expect to find something new. I will back to you again for an update.

    Please let me know in case you want me test or configure something else.

  • I don't know if it is a bug or not but before submitting a bug request I would like to have your opinion.

    When I enlarge the "properties" bar the content of the layout unexpectedly change the proportion.

    Just to make you an example. This is the default configuration:

    Now I resized the Properties bar, look at the objects of the layout:

    I enlarge as much as I can the bar:

    The same happen if I add the "Find results" bar at the bottom of the window, look at deformation of the objects and the shifting of the placeholders into the layout:

    Resetting the configuration doesn't solve.

    I have also tried to open Chrome with extensions disabled but nothing to do...

    Firefox seams not affected by the problem.

    It doesn't matter which C3 version I use.

    Any idea on what can be the cause of this?

  • I have taken a tour to look for an online multi platform app icon generator tool. There are plenty of these online tools and what I've understood is that there are no clear or maybe not up to date information on the argument.

    I have focused myself on Android+apple+microsoft platforms and what I've seen is that they are all proposing a bunch of different sizes. Some of them try to document each size others point to be minimalist and simply export the files with not so much info.

    Unfortunately just few of them may generate icons with square or round custom background.

    I think the best high quality option is to pick the best for each platform, generate the icons for each different platform, aggregate them into a folder and rename all icons respecting C3 naming convention and if your project don't blow up due to icons indigestion should cover the most of the scenarios.

    But if there is someone has found a real multi platform icon generator tool or found another multi platform proof solution is very welcome to share the link here!.

    Do you suggest or recommend additional sizes they are not included into the default C3 configuration?

    What about add all the sizes the online tools usually generate?

    Reading your answers I understood C3 is analyzing the list of the available icons and basing on the export you have selected it will use automatically the best icons favoring the biggest one to preserve image quality or picking up the one have the right size for the right purpose. Am I right till here?

    if so, adding further icons with different sizes will might cover unpredictable not documented scenarios?

    What C3 uses to pick up the best icons? the name or the real size of the icons?

    Of course the dynamic scenarios you'll need to face for the different platforms is complicating your tasks but I would appreciate a sort of guide lines the developer should follow to get the best results for each platform.

    I'm curious on how "Icons folder" works.

    I understood the folder contains a list of default icons with different sizes.

    There is one icon ("loading-logo.png") that it is clearly used while the project is loaded and the proper configuration is set into the project properties.

    But what about the others?

    I've run out the forum to find some answers but they are not satisfying me at all.

    I didn't find any official document explaining the purpose of this folder.

    So, my questions are:

    • What is the standard name of the icon used?
    • What is the purpose of each icon?
    • It looks I can add further files at that folder, but at the end to do what since it appears just the defaults name are used?
    • For what platforms are used the icons? (android, ios, windows, linux...)
    • Are there other icon names may be used? (I have seen around here there is also an "icon-144.png" file type was used, but not into my C3 editor as far as I see)
    • What if the device is using a round or square icons? How do we need to arrange the graphic in this case?

    I know there are online tools that automatically generate icons for the different platforms but then what? they appears they are all generating standard files (with different sizes used in C3) easily usable in standard developers tools. C3 is using a different name format.

    Please don't get me wrong, I know there will be probably other priority but I really appreciate some clarity on this.

  • It's technically possible, but a lot of work. We would need to research the Android APIs further, look into similar iOS ones. Once that is done we would have to write a new cordova plugin to access the native methods, then either integrate it with an existing C3 plugin or add a new one.

    If there was more interest we would look into it, but I don't think there is. I talked to one guy a couple years back who wanted to make a game for the visually impaired using vibration but that was the last time I remember someone mentioning it.

    You can file a feature request on https://construct3.ideas.aha.io/ideas?project=C3 and we'll take a look at it once it has gained sufficient interest. Or try asking around of the SDK forum, might be that a developer will make a 3rd party plugin for you.

  • The API we use only provides the capability of producing a vibration pattern ( for example: vibrate for 200ms, pause for 100ms, vibrate for 300ms, pause for 50ms, vibrate for 50ms ). It doesn't allow you any other control unfortunately.

    The actual native APIs on devices tend to be rather fragmented. Originally on iOS and Android vibration was actually part of the audio system. Now they have dedicated systems for it, but some cheaper hardware isn't capable of meeting the requirements for more advanced things.

    Nepeo that's of course a limitation for old and cheap devices but do you think it will be possible technically speaking implement this feature into next C3 releases and somehow test/check if the device will be able to use this?

  • The browser plugin has a "vibrate" action, however it's somewhat limited on iOS. This is because Apple gives very little control over vibration to app developers.

    Nepeo yes, I have seen the vibrate action, is it something you guys can extend and includes amplitude and strength? (at least for android devices)
