But speaking for myself at least, I have no interest in it. Sync.com. pCloud etc, plenty of free and secure cloud services to go around.

Presumably because they are running out of money and want a more reliable way of being profitable and make their company bigger. I'm not exactly ecstatic about it either... I would have preferred if they had gone the route of Superpowers which makes it possible to setup your own web server.

They HAD a great ethos towards piracy, back when updates to C2 were regular. Much like GoG, the idea being it's more beneficial to be legal than pirate, you used to get frequent updates and access to the community, all of which you really miss from pirating (since you'd have to wait for the pirates to update each version and you wouldn't have as easy access to help from the forums if you're only ever a "free" user). I agree, lifetime updates aren't necessarily profitable, but it works for Fruity Loops: https://www.image-line.com/support/FLHe ... p_free.htm http://www.image-line.com/flstudio/life ... pdates.php

But if you don't renew the sub you can't get updates, additions. or bug fixes - you do however get to keep and use the components forever after that. Additionally you can renew your sub at any time you want - even years later - at a reduced price.

The problem with that idea though is that you would indeed still be milking them, since you don't pay to keep the server running anymore, yet you still have access to it. At some point there wouldn't be money to pay for the cloud server anymore without a loss because nobody would be paying annually, yet their server would possibly need upgrades because of a larger user-base that would require a bigger server capacity and other things.

If you are a corporation with other products that are profitable, then yes it's possible but if you're a company with a one time fee product, then there's no steady income to make such a business model possible.

You may not have access to the cloud anymore, but you can still download your stuff and work offline as far as I have understood.

This is why they should launch with the desktop version. I wouldn't even consider it if it's going to be purely internet-based saves and browser-based work. To be honest, I've skipped over all this, it doesn't make any sense to me. Isn't that stuff usually for applet-type tools?

  • Off and on I've been trying to get myself to "like" Unity but each time....ugh......also recenlty trying out GMS2 and that has potential. But basically, nothing beats the simplicity and ease of C2 so far. Haven't tried the Fusion stuff yet though.

Agreed, I can't believe Unity still isn't HiDPI in Windows, it looks horrendous in 1920x1080!

All they need to do is drop the being locked out of your project after twelve month and it would be fine.

I mentioned somewhere else on these forums that I have a suite of components for UI dev in VS which is a twelve month sub type system. But if you don't renew the sub you can't get updates, additions. or bug fixes - you do however get to keep and use the components forever after that. I can renew it now if I want, although I haven't done so for nearly two years, because there is nothing new added that I need.

This way you are not milking them by expecting never ending work done to the tools, and they are not milking you by expecting you to keep paying to use the tools.

    Much fairer system I think.

  • A gif of my working example:

Here's what it SHOULD look like: https://youtu.be/t7E-P4VJbdg?t=45

This is the best I've got so far: https://www.dropbox.com/s/p3hywg0ow9k7v ... .capx?dl=0

If you enable 14 and 15, a crude "drop" will kick in, to avoid the knife fighting around forever if it can't reach you ala: https://youtu.be/t7E-P4VJbdg?t=23

    I also have another (broken) version: https://www.dropbox.com/s/vnl5gdjk0dqpq ... .capx?dl=0

It uses rexrainbow 's LJpotential behavior: viewtopic.php?f=153&t=112786

Basically, the knife needs to "pathfind" it's way back to the player a lot better, avoiding the obstacles properly. RIght now, it doesn't, but it makes a valiant effort to try!

Rex kindly made a version with bullet behavior: https://1drv.ms/u/s!Am5HlOzVf0kHlm8pc07sz5MESI51 but there's a bit of flutter with the angle rotation, and it clings a bit to the walls, but it serves as a useful example for some ideas. He also suggested using the boids plugin: behavior-rex-boids_t126707 but I've never used this before and am not sure how to make this work in this particular case.

If anyone has ANY advice on how I can try and get this knife-tech looking and working better, please be my guest! <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy">

Sorry, this rex_LJpotential only provide a lead angle.

Behavior of your target should take care by yourself, I could not help you in this case.

No problem, thanks for your help!

  • Zebbi

The problem might be the behavior of car (behavior)

Car behavior is not flexible then rotate-to (set angle), and it seems that car could not rotate if it can not move forward. It means that you might turn left/right early.

You might see my racing car sample capx in 1st post of this thread.

Is it possible to approximate it? It doesn't really break much, and gets back up to speed fairly fast. Unless the bullet can be made a bit less "fluttery"?

Love it! Just bought the ad-free version! SUPER cute, really fun to play, very addictive and I like the little tutorial, very helpful and the graphics are beautifully 8-bit!!

    I disagree with you.

Well, yeah, if it was ten dollars a year, on second thoughts, I might do! :p

You have made your point clear over several topics. Yiou are risking credibility by over repeating yourself. No offense.

Fair enough, I'll save it next time. By the way, I'm not aware I have much credibility worth saving

And with one-time payment. Beat that.

The "bullet" object in my sample capx.

Here's a modified version with the car engine, the bullet still doesn't "reject" the solids and gets caught, what did I do wrong?
