  • I'm getting an error when I load the game up on Kongregate, though that may be on their end.

Congrats on the webstore by the way!

Thanks, that looks like my fault, I'll fix it once I get a chance.

  • Is anyone else getting this error?

  • Just an update, my game now has 18k users on the chrome web-store and shows up relatively high in the offline apps sections! This is so exciting ;)

After I posted this we got our web-socket server working with date. I couldn't use system time as that would be manipulated. I went to lunch and wasn't able to update the thread so I kinda feel bad sorry, want some free games?

  • I have a simple game I'm making for a client. The game needs to run while the app is not open or at least appear too. It is an android app. There is a plant growing that has to grow while the app is not running. I'm thinking of checking the time online using the web-socket, browser, or AJAX object. Then use that time to calculate how much time has elapsed since the last time and affect object accordingly. I need someone to show me how to do this and host whatever the method for checking time is used. I've got $20 for anyone who can do this.

Looks like we've got it working now with web-sockets.

  • So, I've been exploring some options and I need to find a way to get the current time, but from a webserver to prevent people from manipulating their clocks. Has anyone tried this through ajax or websocket?

  • The best way would be, if your game already expects the player to be connected to the internet, check with a server to get the time.

Alternatively you could check the local time on the device, though, user can move their phone clock forward and back as they please.

Those are the methods I could think of.

I'd imagine that issue with the second problem, what method would you recommend to check a server?

  • So, I'm making a game that needs to have things that happen after a given amount of time, for example, a plant needs to be growing, even if you are not playing the game. What would be the best way to approach this?

  • Hey Austin, just got started with clay.io, it looks like an incredibly useful plugin. Would it be possible for you to add one small function? Get time? I'm trying to make a game that can run in the background, and don't want to base it on system time since that could be manipulated it would be great if I was able to fetch the time from an online source.

  • I'm going to go ahead and bump this, I have a similar issue.

  • Then lets prevent that :)

Hmmm, okay give me a bit, I'll try implementing some into my code.

  • ,

You don't need to host your game on clay.io to use their leaderboard system (crazy & over-generous if you ask me!).

I don't know how to use the leaderboard plugin with cocoonjs although it does appear to be supported in the documentation - and I have no idea if it would work with phonegap (might give that option a try myself in a while....) or intel xdk.

The clay.io plugin is rich with features and with some simple planning you can display the leaderboard embedded in your game using text objects without having to resort to using the clay.io popup window.

Thanks I'll look into it then...
