  • Have you included it in the other event sheets?

  • Try convert it to TTF and then to .woff, then follow Ashely's tutorial on how to get web fonts implemented. I've never worked with bitmap fonts so sorry if this is a bit obscure, I'm just speaking from using TTF and converting to woff.

By the looks if your logs, you should uninstall construct 2 and reinstall it. As well as get an un modified version of socket-io-mod.

You don't really need a web server like apache, all you need is to make sure your ports are open and run the server that is listening on said ports. How about, disable your firewall on your router and computer and go from there.

  • LimonSpace

I'm using a clean copy of the html file and a clean example_server.js (except for the port of course).

    Read this: github.com/LearnBoost/socket.io/wiki/Socket.IO-and-firewall-software

I don't know what more to do, try port 80.

Have you opened the ports on your router, and your computer's firewall?

Wait...is your server listening (example_server.js) on those ports or are you changing the connecting ports (in the HTML file).

  • LimonSpace

    Well...firstly I do hope you are a female ;D

And secondly, a lot of other programs will probably use this port. You'll just have to check and find the program that uses it.

It would be easier if you set up a cloud based server. Windows azure has node.js and a 3 month free trial.

I have to go to work now, but just close all network programs. Or you can open and test port 80 and 843.

Beyond that, I don't know. 443 works for me fine, you'll just have to experiment. You'll probably have some luck with 843, because 443 is quite a commonly used port.

  • Hey,

I'm lonehangman...I'm loving construct 2 and have currently been preoccupied from my game to collecting medals on this site :/

To any beginners, don't call your self a noob or retarted. You are more than that and just because you don't know one thing doesn't make you retarted, have some confidence in yourself.

I learnt construct 2 from just tinkering with it, and entering the Ludum dare contest (which increased my knowledge of it by heaps in such a short time).

Once you've lerned construct 2 go on and learn JavaScript. The best way to do it is at codecademy, you'll know JavaScript in under a week. At this point you have the knowledge to make your own plugins and behaviours.

So don't call yourself a noob, believe in yourself and make some games!

  • You aren't retarted or a noob, we all have to start somewhere.

From your drawing, your game looks very simple to do. It could probably be done in a week or even a weekend.

Random spawning is a topic much discussed, as there are various ways to do it. Shooting and moving is also very straight forward.

Your concept is quite general and plain. Now I'm not having a go at you, but try add something interesting, like kill streaks or a reward system or if you are really daring, multiplayer.

The only thing that might take a while is art and the upgrade system, but even that should take about half an hour to an hour, maybe less.

I'm on a mobile device so I can't really post instructions on how to do everything, but maybe later I'll make a tutorial specifically for you.

But yes, if anything learn JavaScript so you nab make your own plugins and such.

    Have a nice day/night :D

  • It's both easier and it's a nostalgia trigger, sometimes it's good to get away from 3D models.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

So...I've figured out and fixed your problem. The solution came to me in

    the shower...

Anyway, What I did was change the listen port to 443 and opened port 443.

You could have stopped reading after this, but I'll explain anyway.

Port 443 is the port for SSL and thus traffic is apparently more secure, which is why the firewall allows it.

The reason why this works is because some firewalls block the web socket port but will allow it if it is on port 443. Thus, changing your server port will allow your server to be seen on the web.

I have tested this with both internal and external clients, and they could all join.

    Anyway, hope this helps

  • LimonSpace

Yeah, I recreated your situation and I have the same problem as you. This weekend I'll sit down and try help you.

  • Hey,

The game we are developing is about 30% done, still awaiting art and some other things. But I have come across one problem, multiplayer.

If anyone that knows how to use socket.io and node.js, as well as know javascript, help us set up the multiplayer portion of the game. (or other multiplayer set up).

If you are interested post a comment or PM me.

If you can do what we desire, then I'll pay you a fairly large amount.

I won't say the details here but again, if you are interested, drop a comment or PM me.

Try host it off dropbox and see if that works, I hosted the socket-io-mod on dropbox and started the server on my computer. Then I connected it from all the devices in the house (Couple of iPads, phones, and computers). And it worked perfectly, so try with that.
