  • First - great sorry that I don't put any information about controls. And unfortunately I can't do this in my first post (not enough reputation points on the forum), so thanks that you did it. I'll try to remind it in the next posts on the forum and add information about it in the new game version.

I am also aware of other unacceptable errors, like not fully interactive menu or "quirks" at the end of the fight. I tried to put the emphasis on the fighting system, but now it also has a few shortcomings.

I am very obliged to rapidly eliminate these shortcomings, in order to then go to the right way of development.

Thank you sincerely, crowtongue, for your support. I am convinced that it will help me stay motivated to creating.

Backyard Fighter is an upcoming fighting game, and my second project after Cubes'n Cubes'n Blocks.

A few words about it's history - This game was started in 2011, In view of the game making battle organized by Fabrykagier.pl. Time to complete the game was 24 hours, and in this time I could make only character animations that have been abandoned after a failed part in the battle. I tried to finish this project several times, but I couldn't cope with this challenge. It is in fact a game of the "fighting" genre and therefore it requires a lot of work. But starting your adventure with Scirra's Construct, I found a couple of solutions for the problems with the game, which led to the intensification of work on Backyard Fighter.

Actually it's an early demo of the game (version 0.1). I decided to inform you about some features of my project:

    • two lcharacters drawed (a red fighter is a clone of the first; already in low quality)
    • temporary animated background
    • fighting engine with enemy's AI
    • some SFX included (the only someone else's creation; mightycoach.com)
    • animated title screen
    • menu with drawed fighter on the left
    • others visible in the game

This game has some bugs to fix, I'm still wondering how to do it well. I hope all of them, and new many features will be visible in a new release (0.2).

Cubes'n Blocks is a game similar to the classic Arkanoid. As you may recall in that game, the ball we had to bounce the ball off a tiny platform, which then destroys blocks, often giving some power-ups for us. In CnB, they are blocks, there is a ball, bonuses, and of course - a platform. But it isn't so common platform. Not just blocks, but some parts of platform can also be destroyed! The main feature of the platform is the so-called B]bit-by-bit platform destroying system. Ball bouncing off our platform may cause more or less damage, depending on how we set the position of our platform relative to the ball's position at the time (soon, you will know that the most effective to bounce the ball is using the platform corners). In our hard situation will help us many kinds of bonuses, as ball's slowdown, superbareer, Slayer, increase of the platform's strenght, and others. Perhaps our "fight for survival" will turn into a fight for the score, which, as it will turn out in the summary of the game, will be affected by many factors.

    I remain I wish you a nice game - maybe you'll like it. ;]

  • Hi everyone :-]

I'm Chris/aka bodzio_stawski. I am interested in making games about five years ago. Mabye the first tentative plans for creating games I had earlier, but only later, thanks to the buying of a simple tool for creating games, I could begin to realize my dreams. But my creative process had been very chaotic. Planning the unrealistic, very hard (to realise) projects, each of which remained unfinished and displaced by the new ideas. My ambitions was gradually decreased, and the motivation to create was, unfortunately, less and less, but I still didn't part with game making. I met Construct, ever since the first mention of its formation appeared on the Internet. I remember they were the negative opinions in my country about this program - has been speculated that this program is very unstable and has no future, and that will never beat the commercial products (remember that in this time there weren't two versions: free Construct Classic and Construct 2; there was only one - free Construct beta). I tell you the truth, I do not even figured out when Construct defeated all rivals and became the best. I would like to associate my future with this software, and in the future may also get Construct 2, if my finances permit :)

Thanks to this hobby, I was able to become acquainted a little with indie games creating and 2D games generally, and do <a little?> progress in creating graphics.

Greetings to all, and all of you must know that I am wholeheartedly with your independent works, because it drives the "real art", free for a commercialism.

    Cheers! :)

  • Yes, it was precisely this problem, about which I wrote at the very beginning, and that I solved it later, and I forgot to mention about it ...

I do not know how about you, but in my game it appeared when sound was playing by setting this system event:

    <img src="http://i725.photobucket.com/albums/ww251/bodziostawski/system.jpg" border="0" />

So, as the normal system event worked bad, I decided to use an object "XAudio2". I set the action:

On collision between <object> and <another object> (because I wanted to hear sound in such a situation)

===>             1)XAudio2: Load file "abc.wav" to channel 1 (no loop)

    2)XAudio2: play channel 1

And that's all. In my game it works fine. :)

PS: wybacz, ze po angielsku, ale moze to innym tez sie przydac :)

  • You're right! Once I inserted an object MOD (MOD is a specific audio format), because I wanted to see if many recurring sound problems depend on the sound format (and I forgot to remove it later). But as the one MOD file can make that the game is unresponsive... :)

As my sound problems have been solved, .I can close this topic. So great thanks for Elyzius and shadowlord!!!

  • I'm terribly sorry for this, I didn't write about fixing of the first issue - I managed to solve this, and the sentence "There are more problems than I thought" is attached just to this error with "GameOver" sound, which you rightly have found.

You're right, "trigger once" condition solve the problem with playing sound, so thanks :)

But unfortunately, the game after losing the ball still stops responding. So it's not the end of the problem :(

    ---

Thanks, the "bit by bit" destroying is conceived to be a key feature of this game :-)

  • Hello

    I have a problem:

I make a game, and everything is OK... until I insert a sound. When I set sound related with (for example:) "collision between object 1 and object 2", When this event should take place, now the game is stuttering (game is stopped during 0.5-1 second <screen is frozen> and then plays again. I understand that's a kind of a burden for the whole game, when the sound is playing. But I cannot build the game without sound - it must be some way to solve this problem. Perhaps this question has already been raised, but unfortunately I didn't find anything on the forum.

I will be grateful for any advice given to me.

    Sincere greetings

    Chris/bodzio_stawski

  • I agree completely, the graphics are extremely good! If I could make a suggestion, maybe assigning the space key to the jumping makes gameplay a little bit uncomfortable, but this is just a detail. The game is likely to be a sensation :)

  • Dark, gray climate is definitely the strong point of your game. Interacting possibilities of a main character made me happy at once :) There are some things that you can correct (maybe graphics to make 100% pretty), but it is within your capabilities. Good wprk :]
