  • Side-scrolling beat-em up next! :)

You could also add some code based on y-axis for the origins of obstacles, so like streets of rage, turtles or similar, you could hide behind stuff, collect power ups. The only downside would be trying to sort z-axis if you want things like doorways etc.

You'd have to check whatever the character was overlapping was lower or higher on the y-axis, and if lower (on the screen) set the character to the bottom.

  • Yeah, I tried physics and platform movement (with controls disabled), however neither acted in a very controlled manner - platform slowed the game dramatically, and physics causes the whole building to fall over.

I've got a newer version working here, with winning/losing - I've now encountered a few new problems as demonstrated in this video :

When the 'level1' layout is loaded via "goto layout" event, the aliens respawn but the buildings etc don't, it's rather odd.

  • I was thinking about this the other day, if an image is reference is made to the same image from different sprites, would it know to reuse the same bitmamp when it comes to runtime.

To save overhead, unless you're using icons also, you could make them 1x1 pixels and scale them up, not perfect, but perhaps would save you some extra download space.

  • I'm making a game for my Dad to replicate the gameplay of an old 80's vic 20 game ( which I can't remember the name of - if anyone had a vic 20, do you remember this game? )

I'd like to run a vector trace every tick or so to check there are no gaps in the chunks and cause the blocks to fall to fill the gap.

Is this possible, or would I just fire upwards invisible sprites to collide with the blocks and make them fall that way?

For some reason also it doesn't work online- so you'll have to download the capx to play.

  • Excellent stuff- had thought this was a native thing - it was one of the first things I was trying to do on opening construct haha.

Would be very cool for gameplay if you could change colour dynamically , a platformer where you have to collect different paints to make yourself a certain colour to finish the level, use a door etc. :)

  • I thought I'd upload a quick example of 4 Direction Isometric movement

    http://www.scirra.com/arcade/addicting-example-games/902/isometric-movement-ball-follow-example

You could combine the events for keys to allow 8 direction - once I've had a deeper read of the manual I'll try add some C'n'C stlye movement too with the mouse.

Has few events (<50) so can be opened with the free licence.

Hope it's of use to someone. :)

  • Whatever happened to sprite 15 has stayed, I tried replacing the image, and it appears on the stage as 0 dimensions.

    Uploaded the capx

  • I may have been using images from outside of the project folder, which were moved or deleted when trying to tidy things up in the file structure, I have a bad habit of naming things with random keyboard mashing.

In instances where where a sprite has no bitmap loaded - could the sprite be populated with some kind of placeholder image or warning perhaps?

I'll see if I can resave to the project folder and make it happen again.

  • Updated monsters so they jump around and aren't just sine-wave movement any more. They're quite random - they also jump around on platforms too, nowhere is safe now. :)

  • Sorry guys- it was the first game I made- wasn't really following the steps, however - deleting sprite 15 worked!

I didn't spot the reference to sprite 15 - seems that's all it was.

    Working version

Thanks again - I'll remember not to save empty sprites!

  • Thanks! Was thinking I'd borked something. Thanks for the help. :)

  • The steps were as described, open contruct 2, open project, that's it.

I'll remake it and save as a single file. :)
