  • I do have this screen that you advised, and while my complaints have diminished since implementing this, I'm still getting emails.

Would there be a way to detect that the mute is on, so the app can alert the user?

  • If the device has mute on (or ringer off) then sound won't play on the app. People just assume when they open an app that they'll get sound.

Apps I've downloaded always plays sound regardless if mute is on or if the ringer is turned off. I saw in another thread that you said no, that if someone has mute on it's for a reason, and I agree logically. However, people have become accustom to having sound regardless.

  • I get so many complaints from people thinking that something is wrong. In fact, I made a "Sound Check" layout that comes up to tell the user to unmute their device and turn their ringer on - along with a button to check the sound. But I STILL get emails (as well as negative reviews on iTunes).

My apps are to help teach kids to read and I use them all the time when I tutor kids, and even I start playing with no sound and then I remember - oh yes - ringer on... This is not an issue from other apps that I use made by other people.

Maybe there's a way I can ignore the ringer and mute?

I'm not sure if there's a way to set the physics, or what I want can't be done.

The "basket" moves left and right (you have to touch the bottom to drag).

Basically, I want to catch the apples, which works. But when the user quickly moves the "basket" back and forth, the apples come out of the sides.

Is there a way to keep them in? If not, I guess I'll have to destroy them, but it was cool to see them accumulate.

  • used to work in XDK, but now any layout with pathfinding crashes.

  • Thanks - this is what I did and it worked:

If the object.Y didn't equal the object.Y in the menu, then (this is the one I want to test). Pick the nearest instance to the rightSide. If that object's X is less than or equal the leftSide then stop the audio.

I never used the "pick nearest instance" before - so thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

  • But there are many of the same objects. Right now when the first one is off screen, the audio ends, which isn't right. I need when all of them are off (except for one that is on screen in a menu).

  • I'm having similar issues, but my apps are for IOS. I've used XDK successfully, and now need to make changes only to find XDK is retired. I used phonegap build one of my apps and it worked, but not entirely. Any layout using the behavior "pathfinder" didn't load properly. I also read on this forum somewhere that phonegap build always makes it so notifications are on which isn't allowed for kid apps.

Now I have no idea what to do next.

  • Yes, we need some tutorials to show us how to get into the appstore since XDK is no longer working. Since I'm not a real software person, I can't figure it out. I have about 9 apps in apple's app store and I need to make updates, but can't. I did use phonegap build, but any layout that used pathfinder would not load (in the past with XDK it worked fine). Also, I read on these forums that with phonegap, the app is made with notifications, which isn't allowed for kid's games - so phonegap isn't an option.

  • I'm wondering the same thing. So not happy about this

I think the options are phone gap build (but that's ~$10/month for more than one app), or cocoon & Ludei , but I'm not sure how this is used. I see there's a tutorial, but it's rather dated, and I don't want to explore that until I know it's still relevant. Also, you have to send to Ludei and wait about 20 minutes for them to email you a file. Is that normal? 20 minutes is a long time.

    XDK will be missed.

  • So far I have three reviews, all one star because they say the sound doesn't work. The one person who contacted me had the mute on, and after unmuting her phone got the sound. Judging by my stinky reviews, this is a problem that I'd like to fix by checking if the mute is on to give the user an message.

  • Can't you just output the x, y coordinates of the player? You can then do something with that data to make it more user friendly - such as if x, y = something then player is somewhere specific.
