Yeah I think polygon collision should be implemented before any physics are touched. Otherwise one would not get such great physics results.

I reckon getting more of Construct Classic behaviours, objects, functions and families should probably get more focus at the earlier stages. Getting C2 to the level of CC would be great, and then building on that to surpass it.

Either way I think this is all very exciting :)

I'll be putting some cash aside to buy C2.

  • I think he meant something for beginners - simple behavior that makes sprite follows the mouse cursor or or goes smoothly to mouse position after left/right clicked.

I did yes, thanks shinkan. Ashley I understand what you are saying in terms of the Bullet behavior. Maybe it could be something we can build upon? From other apps I have looked at it is an obvious behaviour to add.Just remember every noob might come here looking for the same thing and might not really think of using the Bullet behaviour for a player walk behaviour.

A built in behaviour like that with a "Go to and stop" "go to and activate" (where it could launch a different "script" or cobine with a path-finding behavior) could be really powerful and speed up development quite a bit.

  • Look I have used and own a copy of the 8.1 licence. it is capable of clicking together some good games but to do most things you need to write GML. (GM's scripting language) it's a bit easier than other languages and it has a HUGE library for support on the forums etc.

Construct caters to me exactly though. Visual programming. This is where GM fails as it doesn't provide the depth in it's visual scripting that Construct delivers.

However...where YoYo games are doing a huge step is by enabling export to Android and ioS as well as PSP and HTML5. To me as a Indie developer that is worth gold...quite literally, which means I can code something and release it on all these walled gardens.

What Construct 2 is doing with HTML5 is fantastic...it allows your games to get out there and be seen. the problem there is no access to openGl yet like if you would develop directly onto the device so, one will not be able to do the same on HTML5 as one will be able to do natively at this stage. Who knows maybe in the future.

imho Clickteams Multimedia Fusion 2 is doing it right. it's as easy as Construct 2 to click together games - although not as elaborate as CC.

And it has exporters for Flash (swf) and iOS and they charge extra for that.

I reckon Ashley and Tom could do that and make some extra cash as well as keep C2 affordable.

Just not sure how as it is being built for HTML5.

I love Construct from the little time I have spent with it but the non iOS non Android export ability is def something that I wish it had. For all my HTML5 stuff C2 will be my choice as it's the quickest and most fun way of building those games. Then I will look at using something like PhoneGap to deploy to devices and use native features. It is a extra complex step but maybe a good way of doing it.

  • Thanks for the help so far guys.

Kyatric that's almost there I reckon. It's just the "shaking" that's not ideal. I'll have to try edit it a bit more. Thanks a lot for this.

Ashley, I'll try the Bullet behavior as well. I think Construct 2 could use a behavior that simplifies this. I am trying to use Construct 2 as a type of point and click adventure game. Having behaviors that helps in this area would be a huge boon to me and I'm sure many others.

  • I'm trying to figure out what the best way is to let my player sprite move to where the Mouse is.

What would be really helpful is a behaviour that will allow me to set the player movement speed as well as letting him move to the current mouse.x and mouse.y I know there must be a way, I am just too noob to figure it out it seems. <img src="smileys/smiley9.gif" border="0" align="middle" /> If I set it to current mouse X or Y with position it jumps there instead of moving towards it. I have coded something klike this before saying:

X = X++1 until the mouse is let go but how do I set it in C2?

I suppose I could use 'On Every Tick' but that seems kinda wasteful?

How possible will it be to also restrict the Y movement?

So lets say I click on a co ordinate the player will move towards the x co-ordinate (left and right only) and not move up or down at all?

There must be a way but I would maybe think that it's such a common control interface in multiple games that it will have a behaviour dedicated to this kind of movement.

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • This looks really great and I'm keen to get it but I don't understand what you mean with the plugins?

Does it mean you can use it out of Construct 1 and Construct 2 or does it mean one cannot export the images out of the app?

i.e Can you please explain the plugins and what they do more clearly?

Also I would really like to use it for Construct 2 - will it work with it?

    Thanks.

  • Well I don't see why one couldn't bundle it in an installer for download, download it to desktop and run an EXE that just opens the local directory and run it in a browser. so it will still be able to be downloaded and played locally on Mac, Linux and PC if one don't want it played online per se.

I also think that, given time to mature that people will write wrappers and plugins to enhance it past HTML 5.

imho when you look at Flash and where it has gone, and what one can essentially do with it, it gives you a great "Game Development" tool. The problem was the plugin.

now we COULD have the same type of thing with Construct 2 + the ability to use visual building blocks and not thousands of lines of code to do it.

    That's a great opportunity.

I think people are scared that HTML5 is lacking and it is a little bit in some areas but it will get there, the browsers will get there, people will get there.

If you look at other *ahem*gamemakers*ahem* they too are moving towards HTML5 - where some of them have upper hand and only there is that they are also working towards iOS and Android publishing. Ashley is only 1 guy, so give it some time, it will get there.

I personally see a lot of benefits and as a newb to Construct 1 and 2 as a whole i am looking over what is possible. I would LOVE to add some ideas and just maybe help shape it a little so i can use it to develop the games i have in mind.

Kastas, I ran those HTML 5 games on my iPad 2 and only Biolab was smooth where the other was bogging down, unplayable. Hopefully the new iOS5 as well as the new safari build will aid to make HTML5 run quicker..... they have to..it's the future. :)

  • Would it be possible to make animations "animate" in layout editor? for visual reference instead of hiting preview every few seconds

That will definitly be helpful. Maybe have a play button somewhere that shows when the animation runs.

What about animating with Sprite Sheets? Is this possible currently?

I'm new to Scirra of any form and thought i'd start out with Scirra 2 as i want to be able to build HTML 5 and later port apps. I know this is still very early but I'd like to try and find out how Scirra 2 works and maybe help think it through in terms of features.

Would looking at documentation/ tutorials from Scirra Classic help me get my bearings with Scirra 2? I'm currently doing the Scirra 2 beginner guide.
