  • An interesting concept, though I think there are definitely some kinks to be worked out.

Namely, I think the little yellow ball might do well to move a teensy bit slower when it barrels towards your mouse. Also, it might be good to have your walls more clearly defined than just pieces of text, but that might be for later builds.

The ball/Explorer starts at 10 pixels/sec and accelerates at 1000 pixels/sec/sec. to a top speed of 1000 pixels/sec. I can tweak that as is necessary; 700 feels too slow, so somewhere in the 850-950 range is probably ideal. Most of the levels are going to be sprites rather than text (though even for the text, I'm going to make collision masks rather than relying on per-pixel collisions, as the Explorer tends to get snagged on outcropping letters).

    Thanks for the feedback!

  • That's a really funny gameplay. Good Job!

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! How far were you able to get? Do you believe it was fairly on unfairly challenging?

  • Don't use rapidshare, please, since that 10 download limit is kinda lame.

    Much better to use mediafire.

Duly noted. Switched to a mediafire link.

  • Love, by Contrebasse, is a wonderful analogy and a genuinely fun game. It can be found here: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Contreb ... plete=love

I recommend playing it for a few minutes (be sure to go through the tutorial) before trying my demo, since it is essentially an emulation of the above. Once you've had your fill of Contrebasse's excellent offering, have a gander at True Love: http://www.mediafire.com/?9lsrivk22h0bki7

Instead of gleaning happiness from any Other, True Love has you focused on one particular Other, with the rest serving as little more than distractions. There is no tutorial just yet, but the post-game tips should help a bit. Please let me know what y'all think; any and all feedback is welcome.

  • The Desired Result: an object similar to a planet with a ring around it; both the planet and ring are solids, and both must move together, as if they were one object. The ring must be able to grow and shrink while the planet remains one size, so they can't be a single sprite.

The Problem: if I try to use bone movement to set one of the objects as a bone to the other, ball physics doesn't seem to work properly. If I set one object's position to the other, that object will not react as a solid.

Potential Solutions: the only thing that comes to mind is making the entire object a single sprite, and using animations with per-pixel collision detection to expand and contract the ring. This will result in A LOT of animations, which is why I'm trying to find a simpler way in which the two sprites can move together but both react to collisions as solids.

  • Exploratorio is meant to be a simple, fairly self-explanatory title. Accessibility is a very important aspect of the gameplay; please let me know what you think of the concept, as well as how easy it is for a casual gamer to pick up on.

  • A simple top-down shooter that emphasizes maneuvering rather than aiming. I'm using Turret behavior to auto-aim so that the player can focus on lining up a good shot, and RTS behavior to move the player. The target is using Ball behavior with Random(90) bounce, and is chased by an ally exhibiting Ball behavior, with a command telling it to always auto-rotate toward the target. The presence of your ally keeps you from simply spamming bullets until you kill your target, since hitting your ally will kill him. I feel that this accurately portrays certain nuances of tactical ranged combat that many such games do not place enough emphasis on.

Any and all feedback is welcome. Please let me know what y'all think.

  • I wasn't sure where to post this, so I figured this would be the safest bet. Where would I post if I was looking to collaborate on a project? Not a lot of people on moddb, gamedev, etc. seem to be familiar with Construct, unfortunately.

  • It's true, there isn't a specific Add Height/Width action. Just use Set Width/Height and write something like

    Object.Width + 40

to add to the exisiting width.

Thanks, that was the command I was looking for, just couldn't find it. Is there somewhere I can look up a list of commands such as this? I'm sure I'll need to reference something similar.

  • I've scoured the forums and wiki, and I can't find anything that specifically states how to tell the Event Sheet Editor to add x pixels to the height or width of an object when an event occurs. As far as I can tell, there's no option to specifically do so. I'm looking for a way to add or subtract, rather than set, a value the way I can with private variables. I assumed the command was Add(x) or +x or something, but neither of those work.

  • That solved the problem; thanks again!

  • Try Construct 3

  • While I appreciate the time you took to elaborate about the problem at hand, it's really hard to come up with any kind of solution without seeing the corresponding cap file. So I'd indeed suggest you upload it. I would recommend to get Dropbox, which quickly has become the standard around here for sharing files. It's fast and very easy to use!

I opened it in debug mode; seems like the private variables aren't subtracting. Thanks for the Dropbox suggestion; I can see why it's so popular. Here's the .cap: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16313158/Gears%20of%20Car.cap
