  • HAHAHA thanks deadeye

Yes I noticed the smoke trail issue after I uploaded

The thing with the walls disappearing is weird... it's just a tiled background image, not sure why it's doing that :/

Wasn't too fussed at this stage as they are only placeholder graphics for the walls... and yeah I will fix the "flip" of the character by adding some animation frames in there somehow.

Cheers for the comments so far... if you have anything you would like to add in the way of ideas, feel free... I'm kind of making it up as I go along even though it's loosely based on another game.

  • it may also help to make a condition that is inverted:

    IE.

    player is overplapping ladder (inverted)

    player is pressing up (inverted)

-restore gravity to whatever you have it set to

this way, if you do something like jump at the top, the gravity will set itself back to what its meant to be and it wont get stuck being 0.

  • Another way to do it, though it would be a little sloppier is to have a "counter" object which has the number of "bad guys" that you want to have... and compare that to the actual number of bad guys each time one or more is killed...

essentially if the number of bad gys is less than the counter number, then spawn bad guys until the number is equal.

deadeye's way of doing it is way cleaner though.

  • I started playing with Construct again recently as some of you already know... and I got a bit carried away and began a project which, for now, I have titled RAZE - Paladin Wings.

The game is based around an NDS game titled BANGAI-O Spirits, which is a heavy action "platform" style shooter.

My version will boast better visuals, slightly less confusing gameplay mechanics, and a larger screen to play it on lol.

At this stage I have to appologize to anyone not running at least pixel shader 2.0 on thier video card, as I am yet to optimise the special effects for you guys. Also, the system requirements seem to be a little high at this point due to the amount of objects on screen and the shader blends that are used... though hopefully this will be improved with time.

Keep in mind this is a super early test release, mainly to get some feedback from everyone... the enemies cannot be killed and they cannot kill you, and the level is very barren at this stage. The character will eventually have animations, especially for changing directions... as well as a lot of other stuff.

    GAME CONTROLS:

    W,S,A,D - move player aroud

    SHIFT - Shoot missiles

SPACE BAR - Dash (you must be moving to dash, try dashing into enemies)

Have fun, and let me know what you think so far.

  • Lol posting at the same time for the win?

Cheers though, if I hadn't figured it out myself that would have done it for me

  • Is there a real point to this machine?

I know it could help answer questions about the big bang and the makeup of the universe, but do we really need to know.. seems like an awful lot of money and effort's gone in for that.

Anyway, it's not dangerous, but it'd be pretty cool if some small black holes appeared :O

    "AM I DOIN IT RITE?"

    "NO UR DOINIT RONG!"

"BUT I HAB LAREG HARDON COLIDOR~!"

    OMG D:

Well so far, we have the theory of Einstien, and we have Quantum Physics... yet they do not seem to "line up" with each other... there is a "gap".

This machine should create the "string thoery" that ties einstien and newton together... unifying our understanding of everything.

This could then lead to cures for every known disease, the ending of famine and the ability to turn energy back into mass... thus evolving humans intellectually to a "complete understanding".

Progess in science has always been disproving current theories and replacing them with more accurate ones... this machine will smash everything we "think we know" and replace it with what is REALLY correct.

  • ok wow idiot... I have been trying to fix this for over an hour before I posted the question, and I figured out what was happeneing...

The "bullets" were being created on the wrong layer... DUH

OK all good, this can be locked, mocked, or lol'd at.

  • Hi guys

Been working hard over the last few days on a project that I came up with while simply experimenting with some stuff... and it became a little more than an experiment in the end...

Something so simple is frustrating me though... paralax scrolling.

So far I have made a few layers and adjusted the "scroll x rate" and "scroll y rate" and it seems to work fine on layers that are "above" my character, however if I change "scroll x/y rate" on layers which are "below" my characters layer, it... messes with my character.

    Understand? No neither do I...

Example of the anomolae, in a practical situation:

    • We have 3 layers, Layer 1,2,and 3.
    • Player character is on layer 2, and can shoot bullets from a gun.
    • Layer 3 is "on top" or "above" layer 2, and has some laterns in the "foreground" which scroll past the player as they walk along, moving in front of the charater. The scroll rate is adjusted to say, 150%.
    • Layer 1 is behind layer 2 and has some trees and buildings which are supposed to move behind the player. The scroll rate is 80%
    • The effect works perfectly fine (visually), until the player starts shooting his gun. When the characters X coordinate and/or Y coordinate are close to 0, everything seems fine, but as the player walks further along to the right (increasing X coordinate), the bullets seem to fire from a point in front of the player instead of from the players gun... the longer you walk along the further the point moves away from the player. I am using an "action point" on my character at the end of the gun.
    • As soon as the scroll rate is set back to 100% on layer 1, the problem goes away but I loose the paralax on the "back" layer

Anyone else come across this? Am I doing something wrong (I think I am!) to make this happen? I would really like to have a paralaxed background... I could handle it if the foreground stuff wasn't working right, I just wouldn't use it... but having a nice background is more important to me.

    Thanks in advance guys!

  • Thanks guys, it was nice to know I was missed

I'm much better now thank Midnight... but still have a few issues that need to be looked over... I'm typically fairly healthy but I've been struck with a few weird ailments recently and they have been difficult to shake off.

Now... back to trying to figure out how to Construct xD

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Wow cool...

Pity I never work to deadlines... otherwise I'de give it a go. My deadline is always "when I get around to it".

  • I am the co-director of a computer store in a major shopping complex in Adelaide. Other than working all the time, I like to hang out with my wife and daughter, mess around on my PC (which is at a friends house at the moment), and sometimes relax with a few drinks and a good movie or something.

I tend to be busy all the time doing something or other... so trying to squeeze in game development for me comes in bursts. I will often work on something for several days straight, but then not be able to touch it again for a week or more due to my hectic lifestyle.

It sucks becoming "older" and more "responsible". I want to be a kid again... I miss being able to do what I wanted outside of having to go to school.

  • I would have to say it would be pretty arrogant to think that we are the height of the universe, and that there is definately nothing out there that is superior.

Whether or not there is a God, or a creator, I can't say for certain, though I tend to think that there is... that is my personal belief... though from a logical and scientific standpoint it is quite easy to argue otherwise.

Religion is one of those things that tends to be quite personal, and each person is each-to-his-own.
