  • Hey everyone, i was wondering why i do not have this:

    <img src="http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/313/bugqn5.png">

    tab on my program? i kind of think its vital that i have it, as i have no method making an object move etc :p (from my current knowledge, anyway)

  • Well, i was editing one of my actions 'rotate towards point' (i think) and when i went to edit the values, each time i clicked in a new input box for X Y and rotation amount, the little box near the top of the input boxes which tells you what that certain input box does, didnt clear when i clicked on another box, so this is what ended up happening:

    <img src="http://img221.imageshack.us/img221/2210/bugps6.png">

    not a major issue, but one never the less.

  • Hehe, thats good to hear. I am making a game with game maker as you know now, which i stopped because of lag problems. i figured if it was going to lag so bad with such basic stuff i shouldnt waste my time with it, and im not.i will begin to learn construct.

  • Deadeye, would you like to get together and write up a help/contents file for construct?

    I am again referring to game maker, but it has something similar to this. the inbuilt help file has every single code/command available to the program in it, and you just search for it, and it will open it up telling you what the code is and how to use it. ofcourse, there is also sections on how to use game makers basic stuff aswell, import sprites, etc.

    i think it will be helpful for beginners and ourselves alike (Well, technicaly we are beginners <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /> )

  • Ok, my fave method of learning is trial and error, anyway <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /> i tend to not do too well with tutorials when it gets to more complex stuff.

    Thanks again, Ashley - looking forward to working with construct, and to who ever's involved in its making so far it looks like you've all done a good job. Hope we can see this finished <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" />

  • Ok, thanks. When i mentioned my game running slow, it was when using the game maker program. At most, 3 of my NPC's had at -most- 1000 events running at the same time, and it lagged my system:

    AMD athlon 64 X2 Dual

    Core Processor 4800+

    2.50 GHZ, 2.00 GB of ram,

    so i truly doubt i was 'over doing' my computer <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" />

    i shall see how i go with construct once i learn how to get started :p

  • Try Construct 3

    Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

    Try Now Construct 3 users don't see these ads
  • Ok, the way game maker (the program i used to use for making games) is done is the coding in your game has to be turned into a different scripting language, then another, and finally it gets read by the computer. it is obviously slow, not just because of that, but slow in general.

    i was wondering how construct is done? how much can i push this program before it lags and stuff? in game maker, for example, my AI script lagged my comptuer when 3 AI's where on the screen at once..considering it is a 2d game, and very basic, it is not very desirable to have that happen. Also, i see this has a bit of 3d functions too, which game maker also supports, but being such a small program, the creator is restricted to models with low pollies/quality and what not.

    so, summing up:

    how much can this program handle? 2d, and 3'd wise (whats the highest quality game i am expecting to make, etc)

    Please remember, i am a user of programs such as this, i don't develop them, so my understanding in these areas is rather low.

  • Me again - not much on this site in terms of actually creating something! I don't know this projects history but i read that the old server or website was lost and this is a new forum. So im going to have to ask a few things here, again if its already been asked, but i cant do much about that, sorry. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" />

    Anyway, in game maker we have drag and drop commands, and commands we can code in our selves. the drag and drop ones are codes themselves, but with fillout boxes and easyer to use. say, for instance i wanted an objects gravity set to 2 and direction to 270, i would just drag the gravity drag and drop tool and itll ask me to fill out direction, and speed. (direction is in degrees, usual -> that side is 0 degrees, so 270 would be pointing down)

    in code, however, i have to do it manualy:

    gravity=2

    gravity_direction=270

    simple enough, but how does all this work with construct? I fiddled around with it and all i got where premade commands such as one for cars, turrets, etc. i am certain Constructs game making ability is not restricted to that, so what is Constructs version of inserting a code that applies to an object?

    hope it makes sense!

  • Ok, thank you, and sorry for not searching before hand. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" />

    I am going to download and have a look at it right now. I'm not sure who does what for this, but i have exceptional photos hoping skills, so if any pieces of art work need to be done for the forums or website, then Im the man to call <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /> - ofcourse, thats if no one else here does that, even if there is your more then welcomed to ask me for whatever.

  • Hey everyone, im Tim or known as Tidus97 online - you may or may not have seen my name pop up in a few places (im being known in places i havnt even heard of across the internet <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /> )

    I was wondering if we are allowed to put our games made with this for sale? You know, on them non-hardcore game sale sites? as i am interested in making a bit of pocket money out of this hobby i have. I will ask more questions later on, but this is one of my main concerns. I have previous experience with Game maker, but that has a slow coding language, rendering it useless in some situations. <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_sad.gif" alt=":(" title="Sad" /> so i must move on to find something new.

    Thanks in advance, ill be sure to bookmark and check this place regularly - looks exciting <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt=":D" title="Very Happy" /> (dont have a chance to check the program out! midnight and got to wake up early tomorrow <img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_mad.gif" alt=":x" title="Mad" /> )

    cyas!
