  • The point of C3, is to catch people in a subscriptions system where you will never have the software on property (it's a rental) so when in a few years when C4 is released if you want to continue using the software either C3 or C4 you have to keep paying and paying, paying for the same software with a few changes ... this is what is C3, C2 with a few improvements keeping the same drawbacks

    The problem here is that Scirra can happen to something like Toshiba (Read news about Toshiba)

    By not focusing on its authentic users and going to other markets can lose everything

    Well, for what it's worth, Construct 2's education license is already a subscription, and that seems to have been working out fine.

    Also, you'd rather pay $500 up-front? That gets you five years of usage...

    Its like buying a house vs renting a house.

    If many houses are on the market and suddenly the one you looked forward to buying is revealed as rent only, you start to look at what else is available.

    That reveals a number of houses that have roughly the same price to buy and a bigger set of features. They might need some maintenance in a few years - so you will still pay upgrade fees to be up to date with the latest features. But because you bought them, you feel more secure living in them.

    Yes, you have to get used to them, but at least the keys are your keys, not some landlord's. That way you don't feel rushed to constantly look for a proper job in order to not become homeless. You can chill and continue to see the whole thing as a fun hobby

    Renting puts huge pressure on the user to spend more time using the service before time runs out. It makes it feel like another job, not a fun hobby. That is essentially what drastically changes scirra's target demographic. It will phase out a lot of the hobbyist users. That is why some people will feel left out

    Scirra (and maybe the consultants they may have hired) thinks its a viable and sustainable business model. This thread is a bit of fun, but its a poll of under a 100 users

    The percentage between buy and subscriptions is increased in favor of buy, more and more, subscriptions seem to have stagnated and people who prefer to buy,Increases more and more

    Well apart from the fanboyism/hate relationship that there is currently (which I don't get but whatever), PixelPower does have a point:

    Scirra does tend to not fix bugs coming from a third party ("Close as won't fix" anyone?), which break our games multiple times in the past for sometimes a very long wait (the jank/stutter), imagine a bug similar happens and break C3, oh my god, I hope they have a plan for that, because telling users not to update their browser would be downright stupid.

    Ah, that's poor form. You shouldn't ever wish failure on anyone. It's easy to be bummed, but take a breather on that thinking.

    You're wrong, it's not personal, I do not wish bad things to anyone, I was going to buy C3, but I do not want a subscriptions system, that's why I want it to fail, but I do not want C3 to fail, only the subscriptions system
