  • You could go to an older release:

    https://www.scirra.com/construct2/releases

    and change the version of your capx.

    The capx is only a zip-file. You can unpack it (maybe renamoe capx to zip) and in the folder there is .caproj-file. Open it in an editor and change 'saved-with-version' to the version you have.

    Save it and now make a double click on the caproj-file it. C2 should open it now.

    Please also remember to make a few backups before following Asmodean's advice.

    Always better to be safe rather than sorry.

  • So if I understand correctly, you have a Steam license, but want to make the free, stand-alone version (presumably downloaded from here) into a full licensed version?

    That is not possible. The steam license and the license from this site are 2 entirely different licenses. Steam handle their own licensing and Scirra handle the stand-alone version. Buying one does not mean you get the other, I'm sorry to say.

    I'm finding it pretty tricky to get a reliable gesture recognition working and would be quite curious about other people's ideas.

    And I have no idea how to do destructible pixel terrain, hence the lemmings concept sounds super hot as well.

  • Okay, so I decided to buy construct 2 on steam. Because steam wallet funds were easier to use..

    But I need some help on how to upgrade my free version, which was bought before I got steam.

    Is there any way I can upgrade my free version without having to use another $140? I mean, I technically did buy it.

    The highlighted section makes no sense. No one 'buys' the free version - it's just free.

    If you have bought a license via steam, then you must install C2 via the steam client.

  • Try updating to latest stable C2.

    The version you are using - r239 - is from 25th Oct, 2016 and many things have changed.

  • Unfortunately, the .capx you have provided is irretrievable as it is missing virtually all the data from the .capx - only the Animations folder remains, with 1 item in it.

    Did you have Autosave and autobackup set up? (i.e. did you backup 'off site')

    Have you tested them all (by changing the suffix to ,capx)?

    If so, there is nothing that can be done - the file structure is damaged.

    Also, considering that ize hasn't been here for over a year, and hasn't made a post for over 2 years, you may have to hope some other user still has these, unfortunately.
