  • Thanks for your clarification, Kyatric. May you stay in the zone!

    Joyeux Nel !

  • Making games isn't just a matter of putting together objects and events in Construct 2 (apologies, Ashley and Tom :)). The very best part is thinking up ideas for yourself. Observe, imagine, dream, kbdmaster!

  • FlashJS isn't really comparable with Construct 2. Compare writing ActionScript code such as:

    map.addChild(mapLoader);

    mapLoader.load(new URLRequest("./assets/map" + currentLevel + ".html"));

    mapLoader.addEventListener(Event.COMPLETE, respawnCaracterObject);

    ... with the ease and speed of development within the Construct 2 IDE. I rest my case.

  • Hmmm. Hardly in the Christmas spirit, is it?? Certainly unsuitable for children - or men and women of goodwill !!!

  • Yes, very helpful advice and demo capx, Kyatric. Thanks!

    Just wondered why you added:

    .. Sprite simulate control right/left

    Don't you get this automatically for the arrow keys with Platform behavior?

  • Hmm. Doesn't seem to me to have the user-friendliness and elegance of Construct 2. These generalist non-procedural code-generating IDEs have come and gone over the years, but, except in limited ranges of applications, haven't proved to be up to the job of creating industrial-strength software.

  • Well, even though I'm a Kiwi, and fellow-Kiwi Peter Jackson (LOTR Oscar winner) has collaborated with Steven Spielberg) on The Adventures of Tintin, I won't be going to see it - because I'm a Tintin fan. The Guardian has called the movie "thuggishly moronic" and "truly execrable".

  • Yes, fun! Love the graphics!

  • I'm a Kiwi (my avatar is a flying kiwi).

    I think Construct 2 is a FANTASTIC game engine/dev environment. I started writing games (just as a hobby) in 1987 in USCD Pascal and Turtlegraphics. I marvel at the Construct 2 UI and code generator - absolutely BRILLIANT work!

    I'm just getting into making games with it. When I worked my way through the Beginner's Guide, I was a little disappointed that I ended up with a silent game, so I've just written a sequel tutorial: Adding sound - a beginner's guide.

  • OK, I've now completed and posted my Adding sound - a beginner's guide tutorial.

    Since I came up with the proposal to write this tutorial, the Manual has been published, covering quite a bit of the material I'd thought of incorporating. So following Ashley's suggestion, I've oriented my tutorial to be a practical step-by-step guide and a sequel to the main Beginner's Guide , with links to relevant sections of the Manual.

  • Very promising, Intrepid!

    Easy to lose the miner out of the window.

  • Marvellous, 0lifeleft! Thanks very much for updating this so promptly.

    We certainly do have fun playing it - really helps get us in the Christams spirit!

  • Sorry to be a nuisance, 0lifeleft, but the Animations folder is missing from the project zip file.

  • Thanks again for another helpful post, Ashley.

  • Try Construct 3

    Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Brilliant, 01lifeleft! Thanks so much for sharing your capx! Happy Christmas!
