  • zenox98, you can find the packs there, on the official rpg maker shop: http://www.rpgmakerweb.com/products/graphics

  • Well, snapline, I invite you to learn how to make simple components of your game one at a time. That's how all developers and game designers learn. If you haven't yet, you should follow the How to make a Platform game tutorial from the scirra team.

If you want to make a platform RPG, I invite you to make a few platform games first. Then a few games with basic fighting mechanics. Eventually, you'll be able to build on top of that and make a more complex game.

    Good luck going forward,

    Nathan

  • Hey Siberian, this is a set of paid RPG maker DLC that you're sharing. Please respect the authors, there's a lot of work behind such packs.

  • Oh, I'm waiting for the Legacy of the Void extension for Starcraft 2, and the PC release of GTA V actually. It looks quite amazing.

  • Great job guys! This new release also brings its fair share of ergonomics improvements and bug fixes, yay!

  • Hey everyone,

I am back with a new tutorial: 4 productivity tricks with the event editor! In this one, I tried to share some basic techniques that fluidify your C2 programming experience in the long run. Some processes are picked from the manual, like the keyboard shortcuts. Other are just general tips to optimize your coding workflow.

As always, I'm really eager to hear your feedback and requests for new articles!

Next week, I want to release my first free art assets pack: an organized UI set for your mobile games. For the upcoming weeks, I am working on 2 tutorial requests:

1- How to make an Arcade platformer with basic AI (patrol, shoot)

2- How to easily use JSON data in your C2 project (for translations in particular).

    Kind regards,

    Nathan

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Thanks guys. KaMiZoTo, it has worked since the first release of the scml plugin for me. The only thing you have to be careful with are:

    1- you need linear sampling

2- floating point positions ("integer rounding" or something like that has to be unchecked in the project settings)

It works pretty well anyway. The only issues I've faced using spriter are performances and download time: without webgl, a complex character alone is heavy for many devices. Also, the spriter data is uncompressed I believe, thus pretty heavy for online games. But to me, it's really the designer's best third-party tools for C2.

  • Thanks guys, your comments are really touching !

I'm a bit busy away from keyboard at the moment, but I'm getting back to writing and game creation. Dash Rumble's AI is a bit more than I can chew at the moment. I'm working on a simple game for a publisher right now.

  • Ah, thank you everyone. I missed your replies! They're heartwarming !

nikosurfing: I am waiting for webGL in the browser to spread on mobile devices before that. I would like to embrace an online freemium model, and I'm waiting for phonegap to be really thoroughly tested by other C2 users. I'm a game designer first and foremost, so I'd rather not spend too much time bothering with technical aspects such as rendering limitations and lower level elements too much.

In the meantime, I'm stopping my activity as a freelance game artist, to dedicate all of my time to game design (be it for clients, with collaborators...).

Anyway, Dan will stay paused for a little while still. I'm working on some simpler casual game for a publisher at the moment. I'd like to tackle some simpler projects before this one: I don't want to mess up with the kind of complexity it requires overall.

  • Thanks for your comments everyone! Tylermon : the things you pointed at are actually all linked to a bug in that version. It will be corrected in the next build.

I didn't spend a lot of time working on the game this week. Just worked a bit on the story concept and art direction:

The scale of the visuals has to be different during the fights though. I prefered to work with a zoomed in style first, something suited for cinematics first.

  • DUTOIT : thanks much for the kind words ! It always means a lot.

jakobdam : No no, the game is effectively a clone as far as the gameplay is concerned. It's more of a learning exercise, and also a game tailored for html5 game publishers. They certainly don't want too much originality - or mostly on the visuals - and there's unfortunately so much variety you can have in casual, 1 button based gameplay. In general you can add content, variations of the mechanisms and obstacles... but on the html5 market it's really a waste of time, unfortunately: you have to be very productive if you want to make a living. However, it's a good learning experience !

Well game maker, to put it simply, is an old engine with a large active community. It has quirks, not exceptional performances, but it also offers quite a bit of flexibility and even low-level functions (in particular as far as the rendering is concerned). It has other advantages like the amount of experienced users, and extensions I'd say. It's not better overall, nor necessarily worse than C2. It's different: mature but not so fresh anymore. For someone who has used it for a long time like my teammate Sam though, it's a very solid tool.

  • Thanks Jakobdam ! Sam just happens to be quite experienced with game maker, so that's why he uses game maker - no need to switch for now. But sure, it would be quite easy to do with construct too. There's notably lunarray's litetween behavior that's great for tweening.

  • Sure, thanks Kyatric.

  • Tekniko : Ah, why not. We do have a pool of potential improvements for a future game actually. We'll be sure to add your suggestion there.

Aphrodite : You don't sound like a meanie at all! I guess that I'll let a moderator decide if the thread should be moved or not: I didn't pay attention to the fact that it's for C2 creations actually .

  • Fun concept buddy

    Soon, soon . Thanks mate!
