  • I understand more and bigger graphics will impact performance significantly. I also assume html is no different in that graphics are preferably certain sizes like 512 is better than 510 even though 510 is less simply cause 512 is a power of 2? And i am also assuming 4 pictures of 512x512 is better than 1 picture of 1024x1024?

So far i am pretty sure i am on the right path but question 1 is..

How much can i actually put on the screen without messing up and are there good examples of complicated html5 games that i could make with C2 that represent how powerfull it is?

Question 2 is actually more important to me though.

Does everything on a layout impact framerate or do certain things become inactive when they are offscreen (when the layout is bigger than screensize). And when i make a game with more than 1 level do the things on layouts 2, 3, 4, etc impact the performance of level 1 (layout 1) in any way?

  • Doesn't do it for me..

Must have tried it 20 times now with and without reloading/opening and closing the page.

The recalculate reputation button ate a couple hundred of my rep too lolz..

  • Last couple games (or bigger titles anyways) i really enjoyed must have been limbo and machinarium. Now i am anxiously waiting (and have been since the LOD expansion) for Diablo III.

Besides that i don't have time to play games much if i ever want to finish something myself.

I don't count physics tests i run in Second Life obviously :)

Not a game and it isn't really playing either :)

  • Good post, thanks :)

Most of the theory i already got from other sources here and there but cool nontheless :)

  • mmm i had 724 rep just a couple minutes ago but i found a button that says recalculate reputation and since there are some badges missing that i should have once the server updates i figured i would press that button . Now i have 448 rep..

    whehe

    whehehe

I guess that button is not the hidden treasure badge. At least i can scratch that from the list lmao

  • I am not very experienced in C2 yet but perhaps the difference between fullscreen (crop) and (scale) mode makes a difference?

  • Some feedback..

I like the way you are going. It seems you got the basics down but i do have some comments that may help.

The character in orange (Naruto) moves differently. The response time before he actually starts walking is too long. The blue character starts walking faster which makes jumping from standstill a lot easier.

Also i would probably try to keep the buttons for switching characters the same button. So press button 'whatever' to switch between characters AND back. The same goes for the special attack. Have a single button to turn it on and off..

I also noticed the background (mountains) do not tile/repeat properly.

This is actually the only thing you really should change. The rest of it is personal taste. I just like my game more responsive and think most people do.

Keep up the good work mate, you are doing fine :)

  • That makes sense.. *nods

Thank you for your clear answer!

I sincerely derive half the joy i get from C2 by means of the prompt support and not even from the program itself.

Didn't need to ask many questions sofar, but when i do the answer is very clear and usefull. I like that a lot.. even though it is not the answer i hoped for ofcourse whehe

  • Perhaps i am overlooking it cause it is quite a normal feature in a lot of programs but can i color an instance of a sprite? So let's say i upload a bush/shrubbery shape in white and color it variations of green in C2 thus saving having to upload seperate colored sprites to get color variations. I often used this in HUD's and such to change to the correct color when joining a team for example.

    Possible? Not possible?

If it is not in C2 but it is possible i would put this on the wishlist *nods :p

  • So i asked this very same question in my own thread yesterday, while all that time the answer was right here. *shakes head

  • Good way to learn having multiple conditions i must add..

I am very happy now :)

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • Awesome stuff, thank you both Weishaupt and Kyatric for your help.

The example shown by Kyatric does what i seek perfectly. *nods and smiles

    :)

  • But i want both to be present in the level at all times.. I mean the point of the game would be to bring both to a specific point or bring them together by moving them in turn and switching between them..

(seemed like a fun concept to me) *nods

  • How do i switch between two player chars in a platformer?

I have created a regular platform level that is about twice the width of the screen size and placed a sprite as player-character with the solid/scroll to/platformMP behaviours. Nothing fancy..

Now i want to dump another sprite at the other end as second (inactive) character and have a button to switch between which character the player controls. Preferably since the other char may be offscreen the 'scroll to' behaviour could be switched between chars too?

I would apreciate being pointed in the right direction or perhaps even an example?

    Danny

  • Hello everybody,

    Danny, 35, the Netherlands..

A pleasure to be here, i am sure :)

    What do i want?

Create an arty farty, story driven platform game. Kinda like Limbo i guess.. but with an inventory function (and more color whehehe).

Not sure yet if this will be doable in Construct2 so that would be my first question :) I know the functions are there but i don't know how smoothly a big level with lots of grass doing sines and moving platforms runs in html5 for example. Also the resolution will have to be 1280 x 700 for fullscreen play which in Flash became sluggish instantly.

I will be testing exactly that today. *nods

    Do i have skillz?

    Not really :p

I know some Photoshop, Flash, Illustrator, html/css, lsl, 3DsMAX, Poser, and some less known apps.

I realize some will be more usefull here than others and the knowledge i have i each department varies quite a bit. Enough to not let it hinder my use of Construct2 and create my own content i would say *nods

So all i really need is (an) engine(s) so i can get to the good stuff..

    :p

Respect and happy times and all that :)
