  • Create your sprites with a transparent background - use something like Paint.net or Gimp that supports it and save to PNG.

  • Well, the animation seems to continue right where it left off.

But if like, you say, yours doesn't loop it'll just go till the end and that's it.

  • Seems like what's happening is the animation is constantly (i.e. on every tick) started as long as the mouse is over it.

In Construct Classic we had a "Trigger once" option, in C2 workarounds are necessary, it seems.

    Check out the example.

  • This is seriously neat and your demo App looks very nice. Pretty sure this will come in handy once I get back to CC.

    Thanks!

  • Try Construct 3

  • Is the solid always a single object? Because if so, the effect would be easy as pie to cheat using a small edit of my method - just make the move away from object relative to distance from the object.

  • Well, here's a super quick and dirty approach. It would need some extra calculations to deal with unevenly sized or grouped solids, but the idea is there.

Check it out. The end and beginning balls can be drag and dropped, you can also change the number of steps in the Global Variable.

  • Quite impressive, actually. Time to do some designing.

Edit: Reading on, the logo and avatar bits do seem to steer into the evil swamps of crowdsourcing, but then, perhaps, a good chance for some young designers to get some practice.

  • Heh, I was being kinda vague to promote thinking about the problem and thus make it easier the next time.

But ok, made you a cap - it's not really commented (for now?), but at the same time it's simple enough: Grab it!

So what you have there is a little tank that has two weapons bays - currently there are two types of weapons - a rapid fire gun and a slower spread shot. Each bay can have either weapon and you can switch between the bays by Right clicking.

To test the pickup system random weapon pickups gets spawned every 3 seconds. I haven't put much thought into them so sometimes you pick one up and the next one spawns right on top of you, etc. But anyways - you can pick up the weapon and it'll replace the weapon in your current bay and become the active weapon.

Have a look around, let me know if anything is unclear. I may improve it in the background, but the general idea will stay the same.

  • mrsponkie - what you are saying would make sense for a, let's say, end of the year "Best of Construct 2 2011" sort of thing. But if it's a compo with a set time limit then a preset theme works out a lot better by making the entries mostly equal (apart from someone just appropriating whatever they had going to a theme).

  • Global variables - one for each weapon slot and one that says which slot is active. As you pick up/switch/use weapons just consult the variable which tells the game which slot to use.

  • I would say a theme is a must. It levels the playing field and also promotes original ideas (by minimizing use of premade stuff).

A neat thing to have would be a slightly more generous timeframe, the two weeks of the last contest were a bit tight.

Other than that - great to hear more motivating stuff is happening.

  • I don't think you need the for each there - if the condition is at the start only overlapped objects would be picked.

The wait object confuses the system, just do it like this:

  • Sure is progressing nicely. I'm still waiting for the proper new interface, though.

    Oh, and labels! :)

  • This is WICKED cool. Thanks, Rojo!

  • I mean this:

But really, if you share a capx (or at least a screenshot of your events) we can help, otherwise it's a guessing game.
