  • Problem Description

    Image Deduplication doesn't work properly, if sprite has an animation which re-uses the same frame in several places (e.g. in A B A C A D or A A A A A A form)

    Steps to Reproduce Bug

    • Edit Sprite animations.
    • Duplicate frame №0 3 times or duplicate animation "Default" 3 times (or how much times you want)
    • Export to html5 or cocoonjs or anything else
    • Open destination folder and see that in spritesheet you have 4 same pictures (Or more).

    Observed Result

    Construct 2 exports 4 absolutely same frames to a spritesheet and deduplication doesn't delete the unnecessary pics.

    Expected Result

    Construct 2 looks for and removes duplicate images. Interesting that if i clone Sprite object type, deduplication works properly and only 1 frame exported.

  • r168 I think was the same way that you're describing it. I have a back-up folder still for the project I'm working on atm that the backup is from r168 and the Sprites are the way you were talking about. r168 isn't that much younger than the current version, was the last Stable Release before r173 which is the current that is splitting up the animation frames as single images in their own folders.

    r168 exports like that too.

    I have a sprite with a frame with a tree, on export it looks like

    Now i just duplicate that tree 6 times, and now it looks like that

    [attachment=0:d98pd9r1][/attachment:d98pd9r1]

    Recently for all 6 tree frames exported only one tree picture, because they are same, now 6.

  • 6800 frames of animation? What are the dimensions of most of these frames?

    I would be careful about trying to use the Construct 2 version where this thing didn't exist, iirc that was a while ago and there could be changes that would break your project if you tried to open your project in an old version. But you can try (Backup your project though!) by opening the .capproj with notepad or something (I forgot).

    Game will be buggy if i do so. I want to know what ashley can say about it, maybe in future, function to use 1 picture for lots of same frames will be added again, or maybe i can do something else to make it work. If it's not so, well, i'm gonna redid my game in r158.

    I have a problem with new image editor, in one of a new releases you add a new thing that puts all animations in one single file, or a couple of files, thats pretty good, and making a project weight less, but, in early releases, if i had 2 or 20 same animation frames they are exported not as 20 png's, only 1 frame in 1 png exported and used in all duplicated frames, now if i had 20 same animation frames they are exported as 20 same frames in 1 png file. It dissapoints me, i have a game with 34 animations, every animation have 200 same frames in a different order, recently the game's weight was 10mb and it worked good, now it is greater than 70mb, and it use so much ram that my game doesnt launch, i cant publish my game to google play or appstore, i can't even play it, but i want to. I buy c2 to make this game, work about 6 months and now an option that i need most is no more available and everythings broke.

    So, can anyone please help me with this? What should i do now? Install earlier c2 release or is there a possibility to disable this new function?

  • Yes I am very aware that I should look into optimizing the scenes soon. My aim is getting the game to run at 400-600mb of ram. I just need to cut down on the amount of animated environment assets, and find other more resource-friendly ways of making it look good.

    Try to set the export format to png-8, this will make your project size about 50% less, with minimal loss of quality.

    I am thinking about re-install the VM as well but got lots of stuff on Windows so I don't want to spend time backing it up and restoring it.

    Yeah, i spend about 5 minutes to install windows via bootcamp, and that's surely better than messing with the vm's for me, because i have mbp 13, and when i use vm soft, i got to recharge it every 4 hours, not good for me, because in osx without vm, it's working about 9 hours and in win8 about 6.

  • Hi. I currently have a normal harddrive in my computer, but I want to reduce loading times when previewing/debugging as much as possible. Anyone have any experience comparing preview speeds with normal and SSD drives? Would you recommend getting an SSD for this sole purpose if the project is big, and has a lot of files to load?

    I have a pc with 2 240gb intel ssd's in raid0 and pc with hdd, and i dont see a real difference between them in c2, maybe that's, because my projects are not king-sized, or because on a preview you wait for your project to upload to RAM, anyway, you dont see a big difference in c2, but you see that your pc is working a lot faster with ssd, and thats why i think that you got to get it. Look for intel's 730 series, best thing i ever use.

  • A year ago it also worked fine on my Windows 8 via Parallel Desktop. Don't know why it doesn't work anymore. If it is possible, I prefer using Windows 8 as it is much more lighter. Otherwise, maybe I have to switch back to Windows 7 then.

    Are you able to try to run Construct 2 on Win 8 via Parallel?

  • Have you tried it on windows 7? Last time i try to launch construct 2 in parallels, it works fine with 7.

  • I might have a solution though . If you think of a way of taking a curved line like above and split it into a group of straight lines . Then it might work

    Nope, that doesnt work, the white thing over the line makes some parts of background transparent, some parts that i dont need to do transparent. Or maybe i just misunderstand you.
