  • Is dop2000 still around by any chance? I actually used his tutorial and another one he sent me, so he might actually be able to help. Dop, if you're around let me know, I'll just share the entire capx!

Here's the capx in case you or anyone else gets a chance to take a look, but basically everything else works! You choose whether to time yourself or beat the clock, you choose the suspect, type in your user name and submit. The info properly transports to Google Sheets. The problem is that when I try to read google sheets back, my text box keeps just outputting "O."

  • I've rephrased my issue in the comment below and included a capx.

  • Add 1 to a global variable for each vote for a specific person. Then compare global variables.

  • You do not have permission to view this post

  • Maybe try updating global variables to match the entered text, and then on the later page set the text to the data saved as the global variable?

  • Try Construct 3

  • AllanR thank you! Everyone here is so smart. That seems so easy but I couldn't get there in my brain.

    Thanks again!

  • I have one more question, this time about timers. I followed some great tutorials and got two different timer methods- one that just times how long it takes you to do something, and one that counts down from 90 minutes to "beat the clock." They both work great. But, I need the clocks to stop running once the person types in the correct answer. Right now, when the player types in the answer, it says time taken: x time, but the timer keeps running instead of showing exactly what time they put the answer in. I'm wanting to stop the clock once the answer is right so that I can save that data. I've pasted my events below. Any ideas? (I've still got the group "titles" saved from when I was using an example, so please ignore those as they aren't relevant)

    Thank you so much!

  • dop2000 thank you so much! I really appreciate you!

  • Hi all! I apologize if this has been asked before and, if it has, I apologize for missing it in my search through the forums!

I followed an AMAZING tutorial on how to save information from my game to Google Spreadsheets. Legit amazingly detailed, wonderful tutorial.

But now, I want my game to look at that data in the spreadsheet and pull it back into a table of sorts in construct 3. I'm sure there's an easy step that I'm missing, but I've been banging my head against the wall on this for 3 days and my pregnancy brain is just done at this point, haha.

Thank you in advance for any pointers you can give!

  • So I am still not able to get the player to become visible or move around the board. What am I missing??

EDIT Never mind! I needed to make my selection sprite, player sprite, and my "square" sprite global. Now it works!

    Thanks!

  • blackhornet THANK YOU so much! This is super helpful!

  • Thanks, !

I'll give that a shot and see what I can come up with. I appreciate it!

  • FYI I have the pink boxes behind everything because I thought I might could set the sprite's location to those object boxes as the player moved, but I would I have to do that for every single movement/number of spaces

  • I'm working on a "simple" single player game for a class at school, and I've kind of written myself into a corner. I can't figure out how to do the actual movement on the board. So here's a quick setup of what I've got so far:

Player chooses which of the 5 characters they want to be. A semi-transparent version of that character shows up on its starting square on the board. Player rolls the dice. If the player chooses to be Wind Mage or Knight, they add 2 to each roll; Wizard or Firemancer adds 3; Death adds 4.

So say the player chose to be a Wizard. They won't see anything at first because the player sprite is merged with that square on the board. Player rolls a 3. With the "add-on," that means player gets to move 6 spaces. So then I would need the semi-transparent version of the wizard to appear 6 spaces ahead (in this example, the 3 under the Firemancer). Each time the player rolls, they need to move on the squares in that same path. This will change based on other rules of the game which I believe I can implement on my own.

    Can anyone help me out?

I'm attaching a picture of the board and the events I have currently.

    Thank you!

  • In a completely random off-shoot from my game:

I'm also an attorney, and I'm trying to make something that will help me stay a little better organized. I've got an NW.js program in the works and I have it set up to pull an excel spreadsheet from my local disc so it can run offline. Here's my question though:

Is there anyway, once it pulls that excel spreadsheet, for me to have the program to filter the results- in essence, showing me only the excel cells that I'm looking for within the database? Like for one specific client? Or will I have to actually set up a different spreadsheet for each individual client? (if that's the case, I don't think creating the program is worth it).

    Thanks!!!
