  • what kind of game you want? platformer, puzzle, shooter, strategy...

I don't really care about the genre, just something simple. A casual game of any type will do.

    Thanks for your response.

  • Another question.

I have the free edition of C2, so that means I'm limited to 100 events. With that in mind, what kind of simple (but complete) casual games could I make? I'm still a newbie to all of this, so I'm not looking to make anything fancy, just a simple, complete game.

    Ideas?

    Thanks.

  • Thanks for your responses guys. I was wondering, what would be the best social game API to create a plugin for C2? It seems there are so many.

    Thanks again.

  • Well, I'd certainly love it if you could link to those plugins, because I did some searching and couldn't find anything. Maybe I didn't look hard enough. Anything with leaderboards, social features, multiplayer, etc.

What I'm asking is, what process would you follow to create a social MMO. In regards to the tools I mentioned in my OP, I would like to know how to create a plugin so I can make them work with Construct2, as they could be very useful in creating that type of game.

    Thanks, you're awesome. ;-)

  • So, I'm assuming it's possible to extend the features of Construct2 using the plugins system.

My question is, if you wanted to add social/mmo features to your game, how would you add that functionality? What APIs, SDKs, etc. would you use to expand your game, and how would you implement them?

For example, you have Roar Engine, and then you have something like Papaya, or Corona.

Really, it's hard to know which direction to go with so many options available. :/

    Thanks for your help.

  • Thanks for your responses everyone. So Construct2 can't create social games natively...does anyone have any other recommendations on what APIs/SDKs that could be used on Construct2 to make it easier to make social games, or would it be easier to use something like Spaceport and code it from scratch?

  • Also found this: http://roarengine.com/

It isn't like Construct2, it's an API of some kind that integrates with other technology, like flash and HTML5.

Do you guys think Roar Engine could be used in conjunction with Construct2?

EDIT: Found another engine, Spaceport. It creates games that are seamlessly multi-platform, and claims to be several times faster than HTML5. It appears to be well documented.

    Thoughts?

Thanks for your feedback so far, I appreciate it. <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle">

  • After doing a brief search, I may have found a solution: http://papayamobile.com/developer/engine

This is a game engine, which, conviently enough, makes social mobile games. The company is based in China, however.

Found something else that's very interesting: http://papayamobile.com/academy/index.html

Unfortunately, they're looking for 2-3 person teams that have experience making mobile games. Although I have a couple of great design ideas, I neither have a team nor any experience with making mobile games. :( Oh well.

    Thoughts?

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • I've got a couple of questions.

First, is Construct 2 capable of making social games, similar to the likes of farmville? I realize this would require some custom PHP coding to integrate the social features. Is there a game engine out there that is better suited to this type of game?

I'm actually thinking of making a social game for mobile phones. Part of it is action/platform based, where you move around and attack enemies with weapons.

I realize there are many technical aspects involved that are beyond the scope of my post. So my question is; is Construct 2 the best fit for this kind of game, or is there an alternative that is better suited for this genre?

    Thanks. :)

  • I would prefer to have a specific theme to follow (it'd help me know what to do instead of being paralyzed not knowing what to do), and have the games divided into sub-categories. Makes better organization sense, and would allow for more winners. :)

  • Nevermind. I still have this problem, but I thought of a different direction I want to take this game, so I'm going to try that instead.

    Thanks anyway.

  • Alright, so I'm already stuck (lol). I'm trying to make a tycoon game somewhat like Shopping Street (http://www.flonga.com/play/shopping-street.htm), or Amuse Park (http://www.freewebarcade.com/game/amuse-park/).

One of the elements I'm trying to emulate is getting the customer to stop and "vanish" for a short while when they overlap with the game shelf. For some reason though, the customer simply goes behind the game shelf, and nothing happens.

    Thanks for your help.

  • Thank you Lucid and Ashley for your responses, I appreciate it. :)

  • Goodwill - they will help find employment and train you in new skills to land a job. And focus on employment before you sit down and stress about building a Tycoon game. IMO

Actually, I still live with my parents, so it's not so much of an issue. Plus I already have assistance in finding employment and getting training. In fact, I start college next year. In the meantime though, I have nothing to do with my time.

  • I have this neat idea for a Tycoon theme. But lately life has been really hard for me (been unemployed since last December, haven't been able to find work since then, and have $2 in my bank account, so I can't even get the full license to Construct 2 yet).

It seems overwhelming to me. I don't know how to motivate myself to get started, or how to just break the process down into small, doable tasks. I'm still new to game development, never published a game before.

    Really could use your advise.

    Thanks.
