  • you need to add the Function 'object' to your project just like you would add Keyboard support. Then you will see it.

double click anywhere on the Layout and then click Function.. this will add it to the project.. then you can call Create Functions and use Actions to call them...

  • have you updated your graphics card? even out of the box, you probably need to update to the latest drivers..

  • (music problems and such notwithstanding)

what kind of music problems are you referring to? start times? or something like syncing problems?

  • Arima - well I don't think you are giving credit to your understanding of how things work. Maybe the language and the syntax is foreign, but you understand the logic and problem solving is more than half the battle. Syntax is a pain, but once you get by that, you'd be golden.

And for typing use a speech recognition software like Dragon... check this out...

  • use the Timer behavior and set it to a global variable.

  • I appreciate all these comments as they totally speak to things that have concerned me in recent months. I've only been using C2 for about 9 months, but I fell in love with how fast it was to produce something. I, like others, ran into some performance issues, but was mainly due to an old computer. However that said, I want to make deep games and the idea of Chrome or web games seriously turns me off. I bought C2 because of node-webkit. It's not exactly what I thought it was but Arima I agree whole heartly that if Scirra came out with its own local build exporter that would be a great thing indeed.

I've been using Unity3D for a bit and think that tool is something else, not really comparable to C2. I look at C2 as a good way to prototype a game (a 2D game) and is currently what I am using it for. If I feel my game has real potential I will redo it in Unity. But to do that in Unity I will need a team, and for C2, all I need is me (although one could always use help!). However, I think there are certain designs that lend themselves very well to C2. But the whole 'web game' stigma seems very limiting. I could care less about mobile. Even though I work on mobile games (as a music contractor), I have no real interest that platform.

I love C2, and I love that it has got me way deeper into game development than I ever have been before. I used to code in the IT world (functional programming). And C2 has taught me so much.. it teaches you to think like a game developer. I used Unity and Torque long ago without much success. Going to Unity after designing and producing many small games in C2 helped a great deal. Can't say it enough.

btw Arima, if you've been using Construct for 7 years then you could definitely pick up traditional coding pretty easy.. I'm not saying you'll be coding for Blizzard any time soon, but you should pick it up fairly easy. Do some tutorials, you'll see

  • Try Construct 3

Develop games in your browser. Powerful, performant & highly capable.

  • thanks! this works great...

  • nope, just start doing some beginner tutorials and you'll be good. Then when you get a little comfortable try to make a small game. Rinse and repeat... have fun..

  • I downloaded Chrome 33beta and that seems to have fixed the slow-down problem I was having.. my game was running at 3fps, and is now back to 50-60fps

  • alvarop

have you just been getting the messages lately (like in the past week) or has it been longer?

  • What's your video card? Did you update it recently?

I have an ancient video card. ATI Radeon X550 and my driver is Catalyst 10.2

The driver is up to date, but did not update it recently.

I sort of like doing C2 on an older machine to get a sense of what an older computer can do... but at this point it may be just too outdated.

  • I tried the Public Dropbox version of my game on my Mac Mini (Chrome) and the game runs around 30 fps but doesn't have that stuttering problem that I see on the PC...

  • Thanks Arima,

I forced Chrome to use GPU acceleration as Ashley instructed. It made a difference, now the game is running at 24 fps.. but is super stuttery... so I'm not sure what's going on there. And I'm still not sure why Firefox is also having performance issues, but I don't normally use FF so I don't have a baseline.

I am in fact on r158. I just think it's strange the timing of all this. Maybe my Chrome updated by itself only 2 days ago (when this all started for me?).

Regardless, this really kind of stinks to be at the mercy of Chrome like that. That they can flip a switch and break everything. Although I guess that it's only for older computers... but still..

  • I tried Firefox and get 10 fps.

  • Really? I searched the forums in the past 24 hour period and haven't seen a thing.. I've been working on this game for about 6 months now and all of a sudden I'm getting 3 fps... I've even loaded old versions just to make sure it's not some bug I introduced. I tried Firefox and get 10 fps.

When I export to node webkit I get 60 fps... however if I have C2 open with my project, I get 43fps...

    I don't understand at all..

I'm running XP Service Pack 3, 4GBRAM, dual core 3.2GHz Pentium chip..

This isn't good, and its the first time I've questioned my decision to work with C2... I know I need a new computer, but the game I'm trying to develop is not exactly processor or graphics intensive... and regardless, I used to be able to play Scirra Arcade games fine, and now they don't even run...?? I really hope it's my computer, but I'm not convinced in the slightest...
