  • I've also done a bit of 3D, though I'm not very good at it.

I'm not happy at all with the hands on that model. Modeling hands is a pain.

This one is unfinished because we scrapped that part pf the project before I finished it.

  • Properties bar, set looping to yes.

  • One thing you have to get used to with C2 is that when you preview a game it's stored in the browser's cache. Most of the time it works properly, but every now and then you'll either have to clear the cache, close the preview window and run again, or hard reset the page so that the browser runs the updated version of your project, instead of the cached one.

If you're using the 8 Way behaviour (you haven't specified how you're doing things so I'm guessing) then you can disable rotating by changing the "Set Angle" setting in the sprite's properties.

For what you want to do with movement you could either leave the 8 Way behaviour setting "Default Controls" on yes or disable it and do the movement via events.

    + Down Arrow is down

    - Set animation "yourAnimation"

    - Simulate Control: Down (if you set "Default Controls" to no)

    + Else

    - Set animation "someOtherAnimation"

To make the character stop without as much slide, simply increase "decceleration" until the character stops the way you want it to.

  • Are you not aware of the zero day exploit recently uncovered, which Oracle has not made any show of trying to fix? Unless there's been some very recent development on the issue that I'm unaware of, I'm keeping the thing far away from my system.

Doesn't matter if it's not run by Oracle or not, they're still using the software. It's not so much "shoot the messenger" as it is "don't let the messenger near the border".

  • Try Construct 3

  • Can't run it because I'm keeping Java uninstalled 'til Oracle gets their act together.

  • GenkiGenga thanks.

Update. Playing around with hair colors.

Haven't been pixeling for a while so I'm a bit rusty. This is helping me shake of most of the rust and get back to form.

Not sure if the end product will have this level or detail considering it's going to be animated, and also that there's supposed to be two sisters, each with two different forms.

Edit: Did we hit this thread's peak already? :<

  • IIRC you can edit the exported html (I think) to disallow syskeys. I recall Ashley responding to a thread about a similar issue, but regarding the spacebar, which also causes the page to scroll.

But yeah, I'd agree that this is something that would be nice to be able to include when you're exporting, along with some simple tools to let you customise your game page or whatever (mostly because I'm not good with CSS, at all).

  • Yesterday I got an idea I wanted to get down on paper so I did this:

    <img src="https://dl.dropbox.com/u/22615804/twin-sister.jpg" border="0" />

Edit: Currently making a test sprite for it. Wip:

  • Yeah, I have been thinking the same thing.

The effects show up in the editor fine. But when you're just trying out different effects to see if something fits it quickly gets a bit tedious to have to open and close the dialog just to check the effects.

This is especially true when dealing with more than one effect on an object. I know how a few of the effects look like and what they do, but I don't know how the different effects react to each other, for each combination (afaik effect order seems to matter, as I'd expect).

  • It's just "Layout", not "Layout Sheet". Saying layout sheet makes it easy to confuse with event sheet.

Your objects are available from anywhere in the project, yes. Layers do not work this way, they are tied to the layout they were created in.

  • It is applied in at least 1 videogame company that I know of.

    can you name the company?

I also know an Art Director who confirmed me that's what they were told at the university actually.

It's not impossible that he is, or was, misinformed.

It's just there's no legal document that I can find or article on the internet confirming it.

Which is why it's more likely that it doesn't exist.

There are a few major problems with this supposed rule.

If you change it so much that it's a new design. Why not just make a character of your own?

If you were to change something to that degree, but still have it be recognizable as the original piece of art, it's still technically a breach of intellectual property rights.

Another interrogation I have: Can you use the image of a popular building freely in a game? Or do you need to ask the city in which it resides for permission? I'm going to do some research about that right now. :)

I don't think interrogation was the word you wanted to use...

As previously mentioned, it's better to go to an actual lwyer for these kinds of questions. But in general I think you're ok if the building is a public building, and the image/photo is public domain or under CC or some other similar license (note that I'm assuming you're talking about using photos. If you just want to have the likeness of a building that's a slightly different issue). If the house is a place of residence and/or if the building is private property I'd check with the owner. If it's a landmark, like the Statue of Liberty, check with the city/region it's located in.

  • Instances is the right word to use, I think what he meant was that your sentence structure was a bit confusing.

To only apply the duration/effect to one ring at a time you'll want to use the System condition "Pick Random Instance" (or "Pick Nth Instance", if you need/want to be specific with which one is changed) together with the events for the timers, then have a boolean for the ring sprite be true for the duration and use that to detect if the player picks up a ring and if it has that boolean active. If true, add the extra points, if false just add normal points.

  • NotionGames I'll see your Cartoon Network and raise with Nickelodeon.

I'll throw in a sneak peek too. This is a sketch of a character I've rolled up for Pathfinder which I'm going to adapt into my C2 project as a boss.
