  • Things will be a lot easier post-.94 so stay tuned. Right now you don't have a lot of options to get this effect as the animation system is quite unfinished. Until then you can load a ball movement with high deceleration to "bounce" off of your enemies... It's not really that great, but it's a temporary solution.

  • Even the NES Super Mario Brothers uses push-out code. Look up a website on SMB tricks and you'll realize just how far simple platform movement code has come.

  • Ah, much better, and very nice!

My comment about background effects still stands. Even if it's not in space, there are other subtle tricks you can do easily to add a little graphic spark to your game. Overlooking a planet surface? Add some moving cloud shadows. Have a body of water? Make it reflective and reactive. You know, fun stuff.

  • Well, sourceforge keeps things organized better than any forum could. But I agree, while the project is still small and young, and while these forums are significantly more active than the forge, I've been attempting to confirm bugs here in Tech/Help before making a report on the forge.

  • Well THAT's not exactly what Ash wants to hear, I'm sure. ^_^

A little more information would be helpful. Does this only happen in one specific .cap? When it happens, is it a specific event, or all of them? Are there any external variable that might be affecting construct? (open programs, using a program compatibility setting, low mem/page file?)

  • Hey man, nice work!

I know some people on here might not want that screen resolution if it's a windowed application. Make sure along the way that your project could scale back to VGA and still be readable/playable.

Those turret sprites, are they hand-crafted? Well, mouse craf-- you get what I mean.

Anyway, you see how your Bomb Turret is the only easily recognizable one among them? You've done a good job making them all differ from each other, but the focal point is always going to be the big circle at the base. Take your time and make sure each of the turret bases are also unique from each other - different shapes, colors, ect - and I think you'll see a huge improvement.

One thing I do like are (what I presume to be shader effects) on the star background in the title screen. You should consider using similar techniques in background layers to produce a dynamic look during gameplay as well.

    Looking forward to seeing more!

  • If you're trying to say you're dragging or rearranging events within an event sheet, and it crashes, that's a known bug when using Vista. I believe it is to be addressed in the next release or two.

EDIT: Re-read your post, comment still stands. Re-arranging event sheets / layouts in the side bar also produces this known crash.

  • Same issue here, but with "Runtime" update something or other. Was personally waiting to make a note of this until .94 was in the wild.

  • Hey man, there's a time and place for that.

  • One of the biggest misconceptions about open-source is that is an embodiment of freedom. While OpenGL is great, so is DirectX, and like Doppel points out neither of them are costing you any of your freedoms, financially or otherwise. When it comes down to it, it remains the freewill and choices of the developers to use whatever they want.

The fact that the free countries of the world can manage both open- and closed-sourced in the same market with each providing honest competition to the other is a testament to the wonders of this latest generation. Your argument here is entirely wrapped around your hatred for Microsoft - a poor and porous resolve at best.

  • I'm 21, live in Indiana, and I too have no life.

I'm a college student in between transfers. No jobs to speak of in my area, so I spend my days making comics, playing Rock Band and learning PHP. I've picked up Construct as it applies to my studies - I'll be attending Full Sail college in Florida to study game design and digital art.

  • And NOW I say, "Hmm, that's very interesting." And it is. Thanks, Ashley!

Doppel, I may not be a programmer (one semester of Java doesn't really cut it) but I still like to be in on this sort of stuff. You and I might get along better if you would consider my future inquiries as innocent and harmless, and perhaps realize I'm not some kid vying for attention.

  • Just because I'm interested in the stuff doesn't mean I have experience with it. I don't even have a compiler. What's got you so defensive about this?

  • Sent yesterday. Can you confirm you received it?

  • Silly Doppel, Captain knows about optimization. But that's just a general thing. I like to know what KINDS of optimization. It doesn't have to be a senior thesis on the thing, just a nice couple of paragraphs that make me say "hmm, that's very interesting."
