[EVENT] A blossom tale

Introduction

It was a relaxing evening. I spend some time with a book on the couch, when suddenly Blossom spoke to me.

"Is this all?"

I was quite confused and after a second I asked back.

"What do you mean?"

"That room I'm in. Is this the world?"

"Now I see! No, this room is just a tiny part of the world. It belongs to a house which belongs to a city which belongs to a state on a continent."

"So there's more to see?"

"For sure! There are streets and cars and planes and lakes and forests and much more. Early mornings you can see the sun rising. In summer people go on vacation at beaches near great oceans that part all continents. In winter there's snow and ice and people use it to do all kinds of sports."

Blossom remained silent for a while. Then, with a soft voice, she spoke again.

"Let me see the world. I'm anxious to explore new places."

You have to imagine my inner strife. Blossom, that is a song I gave birth to. Her full name is "A blossom tale" and she was a child of love. A child of my passion for music. I nursed her, saw her growing and took care to allow her a carefree life.

But sometimes that's just not enough. And while holding my tears back, I wondered:

"How could I make this possible for you? You are special. You're a song."

"Day after day, when I was sitting here on your hard disc, I watched while you were doing something you call 'surfing the internet'. There's a website you visit so often. It's a place where all kinds of creative people gather, exchange opinions, share knowledge, help each other. Those people create worlds of all kinds, either by creating games, paintings or stories.

It's the Scirra community that could help me fulfill my dream!"

I nodded my head.

"What an awesome idea."

I hope to find mercy in the eyes of the moderators for bumping the thread. I want as many people as possible to be aware of this. The more people participate, the more fun it will be. But to participate, they have to know about it.

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Blossom and I'm a song. Nothing special, just a simple song. But I can't help being different to a point where I seek more than I found yet.

It's not tulamide's fault. He's nice and caring. But he can't fulfill my dream. I'm sad at times. There's this yearning, a little voice that tells me to explore the world.

How I would love to accompany an adventurer on his quest! How I would love to see the world through the eyes of an artist!

I know this is asked so much, but would you be willing to help me? Tulamide told me that some of you create amazing prototypes, while others take part in competitions, where they create complete games in just a few days! He also showed me the beautiful artwork that so many post here. Also there are talented authors of awesome stories - although they tend to keep in the background. There talent can be seen in games, for example on the arcade. And all of you share one thing in common - the ability to create worlds. And that's my wish. Take me with you on the journey!

In exactly one week from now I will show up here. Hear me, feel me, let me inspire you. And let me be part of your creation.

Well, you've heard her. Man, she was nervous. But now there's no way back! So, all of you, do whatever you can to help Blossom.

As soon as Blossom shows up here, you have one week to do whatever she inspires you to (if at all). Artwork, prototypes, stories, apps, even small games. Prepare your tools, send your wife/girlfriend/mother on a vacation, make sure there's enough coffee and give your very best!

Spread the word; the more participate, the more fun.

"I'm excited."

I couldn't help giggling. Blossom indeed was very nervous and excited since she posted her letter to the community. And while she now thought of day 0, a few notes of her melody slipped away from her. The ones with the deeper frequencies.

"Wow, that was a good one", I said grinning. "Might as well share it with the community."

"DON'T YOU DARE", she screamed. I walked to the pc and started playing her.

"See? You're as beautiful as ever, nothing's changed. It was just natural."

"But please don't tell them. I'd be so ashamed, if they laugh."

"Don't worry, the Scirra com will never, ever, make fun of you!"

"I think it was a bad idea", Blosson said while looking at the Scirra page. "Almost nobody is aware of it."

"Oh come on, Blossom. More than 700 views. They know about it and they will help you. I have no doubt."

"And if they don't like me?"

"They will. How could anyone not like you? Just relax, Blossom, everything's fine."

"I forgot to talk about a prize."

"Do you really think, the Scirra com is just interested in rewards? I know them better. They will help you for the fun of it, for the experiences they make - and some simply because you're cute."

If ever a song was able to blush it's Blossom. To help her getting out of this uncomfortable moment, I quickly added:

"Also, I think they already guess that you are the prize."

I have to say. I'm very curious about this. Every now and then, i check this page to see what this is about. Please continue, i really want to hear Blossom! <img src="smileys/smiley1.gif" border="0" align="middle" />

"Are you prepared? Suitcase packed?"

While hearing unusual sounds from my speakers, I thought I might better ask. The sounds stopped right after and Blossom answered.

"Um, yes."

"Tomorrow is the great day. Your journey begins. So make sure you have everything ready you need."

"I did. Everything's packed and I'm ready to go. I'm a bit frightened. I mean, I don't know the people that will take me with them, you know?"

"Of course you are. But there's no need to. The Scirra com will take care of you. They are all nice and warm-hearted. Artisitc people don't harm anyone. They love life way to much to be destructive."

Blossom remained silent, but after a short time those unusual sounds reappeared.

"Blossom, what are you doing there?"

"Errm, nothing special."

"But I hear those strange sounds."

"Well, you know, um..."

"Yes?"

"It's just, that I'll leave home."

"Just like you wished."

"Yes, sure, and I'm excited and all. But, I don't want to forget where I came from."

"Oh, Blossom."

I couldn't hold my tears back. But Blossom played a few notes from her piano part and that soothed me. Wiping the tears away I asked:

"But why those unusual sounds earlier?"

"To not forget my birthplace. I'm sorry, but I'm sure I didn't harm anything. It's just a few bits."

"I still don't understand?"

"I scraped a few bits from the hard drive to take them with me."

The event has started.

Help Blossom as much as you can to explore new places! And here's how: You probably are used to the have a game idea, lay it out, do a prototype, work on an alpha, maybe a few beta versions - and then you get some musician to compose music that suits your game.

In this event you are challenged exactly the other way round. Do a game that suits the song! And not only games, but everything that you think will suit the song.

Below Blossom showed up. Download her, listen to her, listen to her as much as you like to. But at some point, do whatever she's inspiring you to: A picture, a short story, a prototype, an app, a game. Whatever it is, just do it.

I will soon create a second thread. That thread is meant to post your creations to. Please don't comment there or do anything else but posting your creations (with descriptions as you like). Comments, critics, etc., all belong here in this thread instead.

After 7 days I will ask the moderators to close that second thread and then the com will be able to vote here for their favorites. In the end all who participated will be winners, but the one with the most votes will also win the exclusive right to use the song 'A blossom tale' in any way he/she sees fit (incl. deleting it, making fun of it, making money of it, cover it, etc.).

Also, I try hard (but wasn't very satisfied to the day) to create a special 'I helped Blossom' badge, that you can put in your signature full of proud <img src="smileys/smiley4.gif" border="0" align="middle">

It is a very nice track tulamide. I like the instruments you Included. You have talent. I'm in wind walkers boat but will definitely make time for her action themed brother!
