We're releasing a small patch update for r397 as it's the latest stable release, we're still a few weeks away from the next stable release, and there are some important updates from the latest beta releases we'd like to bring to you before then.
In other news, we are also planning to make our first Long Term Support (LTS) release from the r397 release. We've done quite a bit of work behind-the-scenes to facilitate this, including a couple of internal changes in this update. In summary we plan to release an r397 LTS release shortly before the next stable release comes out, and support that with essential updates only, a bit like what we're doing with this update, but ongoing until the end of next year. We'll have more to say about that at the time, but we just wanted to mention it's in the works and means if you choose to, you'll be able to stay on the r397 release for much longer.
